Any top manager would have taken us to the CL final that year, Even Rafa could not have screwed that up, Jesus I think us lot on here and managed the team by vote who to play and tactics and subs etc and still got to the final
Not the best example of the point you're making because by the same token you could just as easily say that any top manager would have managed to navigate their way past an inferior Liverpool team in at least one of the semis in 95 and 97, but as we know Mourinho failed both times. Even Avram Grant managed to win over them.

I see Ake's signed a new 5 year deal and been loaned to Watford for the season. It's not a bad move for him, although I would have liked to have seen him play a part for us this season. Shame we couldn't have offloaded Mikel to them instead.

The real 'super powers' of European football want to win every bit as much as Jose!
BUT, they also want to win with some style and try and entertain the fans.
Brazil became the 'world's fav national team because they won by playing with flair.
It's down to mindset. Jose's is just negative!
But we aren't at the level of the current super powers, being Real, Barce and Bayern are we. No English team are currently anywhere near them. The main thing is being in the competition and competing.
So you actually think that Brazil play with flair now ? They are a negative national team who can't even find a place for Couthino.

The strange thing with you Dixie is that you only post when the going gets tough. Never heard from you in the first half of last season as you could not post anything negative.
This stuff is a godsend for you.

To be honest I am fed up of reading stuff like this. You just know he's highly unlikely to ever get games at Chelsea.
Agree though, good move for him.

Yeah I know what you mean, you do wonder if any of them are ever really going to get a proper opportunity with us. Even when they do come back with plenty of loan experience under their belt they still get shunted out before long, like Bertrand.

That German club have announced they've sold that LB to us.

Of course, nowadays transfer deals have to be confirmed at least 10 times before they become official, so he might not have signed yet......

Sunday 16th August, 4.00 p.m.

Chelsea have to get a result, and it will be a draw imo. I'm sticking to my prediction that it's going to be a difficult season because the squad is weaker, and even after a successful season you HAVE to improve the squad.

Man Utd are getting results, and riding their luck. That will end imo, and they will start to lose and draw more.

The advantage of having a big strong squad is that you can rotate, and imo it is impossible to win the PL and CL unless you rotate. Only Man Utd have done, it and when we won the CL, we finished 5th in the PL. I can't see JM ever rotating significantly, it's not his way, and that's that.

Youth. Someone commented recently that you have Man Utd producing (and sometimes losing) the likes of Januzaj, Pogba and in the past Scholes etc. You have Liverpool bringing through Gerrard, Fowler, Owen, Stirling, Carragher etc, and then there's Southampton who have produced a conveyor belt of talent.

And Chelsea? John Terry, that's it, despite a reported £100 million investment by the owner in youth. WHAT IS GOING ON?!! There is something wrong there. Can't we just shadow what Everton and Southampton are doing re' youth, and try and get in there first! Everton have brought through Stones, Barkley and Rooney in recent years. Not bad.

Quite a good (and pretty fair) article about the dilemma Chelsea face in bringing through youth. It's from back in April so a few things have changed, but it remains just as relevant.

Pretty dreadful in defence again, but down the other side this week.

Riding our luck so far, they could be 2/3 in front. Looking pretty decent going foward though.

Yep. Only surprise is that it took 5 attempts for Aguero to score.

Yes, if we can keep it to 0-1 until half time it will be a relief. It's a long time since I've seen us this bad in defence.

Its trophies that attract overseas fans. They support winning teams.
Thats a fact my friend.

Then please explain why our fan base grew after Jose left us?
Please explain why our away support was so poor during his time?
I think it's very significant that, for the first time in a very long time we have not taken up our full allocation for today's game. If Jose stays, I can see this happening more and more. He wins things but at the price of turning people away.

Poor from Chelsea, very poor. Too slow, dodgy in defence, dodgy on the counter, etc, etc. Man city look dangerous every time they get the ball, Chelsea look blunt and disjointed.

There's something seriously wrong at the moment, and it could be 3 or 4 - nil at HT.

You've said this before and I explained why I was not posting early last season. I also spoke about how pleasantly surprised I was by our football for the first part of last season.
However, if we split the last two seasons into quarters, 3 quarters of it has been typical Jose, and i will never support that!!!

Well, we need to bring on Zouma. But I'm not sure who to take off, they've all been equally poor.

I'm not Mourinho's biggest fan either but we can't keep changing managers at the drop of a hat. As we found out over the last decade the grass wasn't always greener without him. It's clear you'd like someone else in, but realistically who do you think is up to the job?

A total shambles! 5-0 wouldn't have flattered City.
No pace or class anywhere on the pitch!
We have been crap and poor for a very long time now. We only got away with it last season because the other top teams were so bad. Now City are looking good again we are being brutally exposed.
