£25million is a good price for a player who is not the finished article by any stretch.
Heck, its only £5millino less than what we have paid for one of the best strikers in europe and a proven goalscorer in Costa. The management at Chelsea clearly do not see a future for him, so getting rid of him for that price is a good move, and also in terms of our commitment to FFP. We have effectively swapped Lukkaku for Costa, and im happy with that. Just as i was happy with cesc and £20m in the bank for Luiz. At least when we get rid of our players, we are getting in good money, and spending it wisely. How many years has it been since we can say that? Costa, Torres and Drogba seems like they could be our strikeforce. Really strange move IMO. Obviously could swing either way but the bizarre thing for me is that Lukaku seemed like an absolute perfect fit for Mourinho. |

Good to see costa playing on the shoulders of defenders
I think he will burst through like that many times this season, a cool head to,not be selfish at the end too. |

Lukaku's just retweeted Collymore wishing him good luck at Everton, so....f**k it. Everton press conference at 7.

We should use the Lukaku money to pay off Torres' contract. There'd be a silver lining then.

Can we concentrate on a great start that cesc and Costa have had?
Costa is looking good so far. |

Everyone's reporting £28m for Lukaku now. That is a very good fee all things considered. Wish him well at Everton, he'll get the game time he needs to develop further and hopefully do really well for them.

I am also surprised we got so much for Lukaku, i expected maybe £18m at most representing breaking even but expected lower than that. Seems like a decent deal at £28m!
I suspect that Lukaku wanted to be number one striker at a club and he wasn't going to get it with us after Costa signing. Shame to see him go as he is a promising striker. I am more concerned about Torres, i wish we would just get rid of him as he is bloody awful. A 36 year old Drogba doesn't seem much better. What happens if Costa gets injured? We would be in a lot of trouble and having to rely on Drogba or Torres just seems like madness. |

Mourinho's expecting Courtois to play 45 mins against Bremen at the weekend. No mentions of Hazard and Oscar, but I expect we'll leave them as long as possible. Same with Schurrle.

Are Everton paying Chelsea the fee up front, cause I'm an Everton fan who can't believe we have splashed out 28 mil, and wondering where our chairman got the money from

He will go to a CL club in a few years for £40 million. Belgium is producing world class players right now.

So we can buy him back when he is the real deal for about the same price then, not bad business

Mourinho statement:
"Romelu was always very clear with us with his mentality and his approach was not highly motivated to come to a competitive situation with Chelsea. He wanted to play for Chelsea but he clearly wanted to be first-choice striker, but for a club of our dimension it is very difficult to promise to a player." "That reduced, immediately, his desire to come to us. After that Everton came with an important offer and as I always say, because it's the reality of our club and we want to be inside the Financial Fair Play rules, it's always in the thoughts of the board. The important thing is that he's happy and things work well for him, he's a good kid and has his way of thinking and organising his career." Personally, I would like to hear Lukaku's side of the situation. I don't believe Jose did much to persuade Romelu to stay. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if Mourinho has deliberately made it difficult for him to remain with the club. The bottom line is that Jose probably never rated him, same as he never really wanted Mata. He played Mata, but it must have been clear to the player that there was no longer any future for him at Chelsea. I've been reading posts on other sites saying Lukaku should have stayed and fought for his place. But staying with a manager who clearly doesn't really rate you very highly is not very appealing, in football or any other job. So I don't really blame him. Oh well, Mourinho's our manager and we have to trust his judgement..for the time being anyway. |

Good luck to him. Everton is a good club. I have a feeling Jose's mind was made up, probably during pre-season last year. What a pity he can't give Torres the cold shoulder and persuade him to leave. |
