Well you must have seen something that every big club missed. If he had that much potential he would not have gone to such a minor club from us.

£18M for potential is very hard to turn down no matter how big it could have been
I'm surprised a bigger team didn't go for him then. if it had been a summer transfer I have no doubt it would have been different.

Did you spot it the time ? I certainly didn't. The few games I saw him play, he looked very average. The talk at the time was about him wanting more first team football when his performances didn't justify it. I don't know if that's true or not, but Mourinho didn't appear to like his attitude in training either, and the feeling was apparently mutual.
I became a huge fan when he spent the season on loan in Germany. To me, he looked more than ready to come back and become a key member of the team, but I always got the feeling Mourinho looked at him the same way he did Mata. By the sounds of it, KDB thought the same as well. Seems they didn't get on form the start.
I know he didn't impress in our first match, but he was never given a proper chance after that. And, yes, I know it was up to him to knuckle down and perform when given the chance (no matter how rare), but starting the occasional cup game and making a few sub appearances when your relationship with the manager isn't good is never going to end well.

You had an advantage on me there, I didn't really follow his progress in Germany, except for reading the odd report.
If we had given him a chance, I guess we needn't have signed Fabregas ? Creatively KDB is similar with the added bonus of being a bigger threat on goal. But unless he's changed a lot, he remains weak defensively..same as Fabregas ?
I see Man City are hoping he will be a replacement for Yaya Toure. Can't see it myself, they have different strengths

Well, he plays anywhere across midfield. Could have played on the right where we've struggled for years, or taken the deeper role that Fabregas has.
Can't see the Toure comparisons though. Suppose they just mean he'll replace his goal threat.

On the subject of attacking players; disappointed with Pedro so far. Hoping his lack of impact since his debut is because we've been so poor, and not a continuation of our bad luck in that position......

totally understandable.

Moving to another country is a big thing, More so with the very different cultures of football where he has come from to ours (and the lifestyle culture is massive on its own)

Yes we will hear the same old rubbish about how much he is paid but that has nothing to do with anything whatsoever.

There has to be a period of adjustment allocated to players who have never played football outside of one country (more so when they have been a one club player and come up as a youngster).

He spent his entire professional life one way and this is a massive change for him.

He wouldn't have wanted to come back with Mourinho here, but not including a sell-on fee clause was a big mistake. His next move way always going to include a large fee.

We are seriously shit at judging talent. It's ridiculous.
You sure? I read that the club demanded £25 million for him, and had to sell him because he was constantly asking to leave. The club could only get £17 million and DID insert a sell on clause and an add on clause that was activated recently.

Recently he has looked good, but let's face it, if some people say 'the jury's still out' on Sterling (which imo it certainly isn't), after 3 seasons playing world class football in the PL and for England, then KDB needs to prove his consistency for at least two full seasons in the PL before anyone can say he's the real deal. He looked diabolical when he played for Chelsea, although he badly wanted to leave. A bit like Sturridge.

It does call into question Mourhino's style yet again, not rotating, not resting players, not utilising the squad, not being prepared to change the approach for different games. I doubt Benitez will ever come back, but many players at the club liked him, and he gave more of the squad a chance to contribute to the team's success.

Hazard wants to play under him again, and for all the stick Benitez gets from a minority of people, that says a lot imo.

West Ham match, I am SO relieved that Ivanovic is still injured. Whereas everyone else on the planet can see he shouldn't be in the team, you just KNOW Jose would pick him if he was fit. There is a chance of a win!

Of course it is. Its even more laughable that a "Chelsea" fan wants to continually talk about ex-Liverpool managers. You do have to wonder why......

The LFC thread doesn't have you in it, therefore not only is it civil but we don't have any trolling or whatever you call your style of discussion/debate going on either.

Benitez deserves time, but even Ronaldo is struggling to score goals for them bar the one game where he got 5. He doesn't play attractive attacking football.

Isn't it odd, that the LFC thread is currently discussing LFC fans as "wind up merchants", trolling and name calling other forum members and LFC fans posting that they "should get over hillsborough".

Very civilized i'm sure!

It's the exception at the moment, that person is pretty new on these forums. You've been on this forum for ages, yet almost every thread you ruin, with your blue tinted spectacles and bias. How about growing up and having a sensible discussion rather than the snide comments you always come up with at the expense of LFC or MUFC.

Would love to respond but we all know you go booing to teacher.
Stand up for yourself in future Mr "Chelsea" fan or perhaps go to the correct thread for your real team. Thank you.

Agreed! Well said lad..

And on the point of being attacked for expressing opinions that the old timers don't like, we've just been having a discussion about an ex AC Milan manager, who was also a Chelsea manager. Is that allowed?! Am I about to get attacked by a gang of 3?!

It's a great discussion if you want to join in:

A tough match today at West Ham, but the team looks compact. Thankfully Ivanovic is still out, so we have a chance.

On form, we should at least get a draw, although 3 points is what's really needed.

At times like these, it would be nice to see a bit of variation. Maybe bring Kennedy on late. Something different, to cause West Ham problems. Problems they hadn't planned for. But Mourhino doesn't do that, so it will probably be a predictable line up, and West Ham will be more than ready.

Come on the Chels'!

As predicted, a line up that West Ham will have prepared for all week. The problem is that West Ham didn't play mid week, and with no rotation to try and keep some players at least fresh, tiredness will come into play, especially late on. We'll see..

Keeping a clean sheet against West Ham in our current form was always going to be a massive ask by far the best team we have played in the last 3 game
