Nice to see the youth team doing well again. It bodes well for the future of the club, as long as youngsters get given a chance at the right time. Tottenham, Leicester, Southampton and other clubs have shown that the loan system is often not necessary. Some posters used to argue that younger players weren't good enough and had to be loaned out to prove themselves. Kane wasn't, Alli wasn't, Sterling wasn't, and the list is very long. Leicester are leading and they've brought a few unknowns through, and Tottenham are right up there as well. I don't think the youth side of the club has been handled well at all in the last several years, and imo that has to change. Simeone is apparently very good at giving youth and lesser known players a chance. He brought Costa through at a time when no one had heard of him. Don't know whether Allegri would do similar. The arguments that you can't 'risk' the youth if you want to win things is dead in the water this season. |

Not the best of times for Tip top with his club firmly beaten by Leicester last week, throwing away a 2 goal lead on the weekend, and going out of the cup last night.

The arguments that you can't 'risk' the youth if you want to win things is dead in the water this season. Ali has been a very good player for Spurs but he has played nearly 100 competitive games which is very important. Since the youth set up in this country is not competitive its never going to be the same. Sterling is still vastly overrated and even more overpriced and even more overpaid. Kane has again played for Orient Millwall Norwich and Leicester before making it at Spurs. If you are going to list players who came though a youth system it might be worth checking they did and did not actual play elsewhere (and at many times though the loan system) |

Some players might be "unknown" to certain posters but not if you actually look outside of the Premier League

That said, I do think we should be blooding the youngsters more this season with the position we're in.

True but am guessing Guss's contract is heavily achievement based, more then likely the further up the table we finish the bigger the bonus at the end. If so I don't blame him for not going down that route

Quite possibly, and I suppose Guus will want to finish as high up as possible for his own professional reputation anyway.
He did such a good job the last time around that he will want to do so again. |

For you there is no greater sight then watching a goal, For me there is not greater sight then watching Arsenal fans self-explode because once again they have lost to Chelsea, There is no greater sight when Steven Gerrard scores a own goal when we are linked to buy him because of the feeling that gives not only you but people you are sharing the experience with
Its not who is a bigger fan its not who "loves" something more or less. Its the fact we get different things from it. . The 'Cruyff turn' is a classic moment in football. Nothing to do with a goal being scored. Banks save from Pele in the 70 World Cup. Again. no goal scored but the whole move to the save at the end was as good as football can get, At Chelsea, i appreciate the talent of a JT as much as i did Mata, or any of our most skillful players. I notice that what you mentioned was all negative things with slip ups and own goals etc. You don't care about 'good football' because according to you, there is no such thing as good football. I suppose It goes hand i hand with you not really caring much about what you actually see on the pitch during games.

Our beloved Jose said during the summer break that Chelsea should scrap their youth system if they're not going to give them a chance. Like he was ever going to give any of them a proper run. He was the ultimate in management of never looking beyond scratching out a result in the next game.

Mind you, if he left with a youngster having a number of games and proving himself would also be seen as a feather in his cap.
I don't think you can blame someone coming in for a season for wanting to ensure they finish as high as possible (or with as many points as possible) and the most logical way of doing that is by picking the senior players. Of course that could happen by bringing in a youth player but I still cannot fault him for going for the senior player route. Its a very fine balance and dependent on what his KPI's are |

Costa was another player who came though a loan system and not a youth set up and from memory was there before Simeone got the job as manager (but on loan and doing ok)

You admitted that you didn't cheer when Gerrard slipped. That proves to me you are not a true Chelsea supporter. That was a fantastic moment for a Chelsea fan, in fact also the rest of the country, yet you didn't appreciate IT. Thats bizarre mate.
Laughable and supremely arrogant! ![]() Once again, if one doesn't see things your way then they are not a true Blue. ![]() I cheered when we scored and won the game. However, i do not gloat at players [any players in any sport] making horrendous errors that cost them or their team bigtime and maybe haunt them for the rest of their life. - Have you ever seen that last second Penalty kick in the Rugby League Cup final from the 1970's where the player missed the kick right in front of the posts to win the game? I'm not even a Rugby League fan, but my heart went out to that guy! Sorry for having feelings for people. I thought Liverpool played some great football that season and would have been worthy Champions. However, after playing such an incredibly stupid game against us [and at Palace btw] then they ended up getting what they deserved. |

Anyone else having second thoughts about the whole business of Mourinho and his departure ? I remember saying months ago (half jokingly) that maybe Jose was engineering his own sacking. At the time, I thought it was a conspiracy theory too far. Now I'm not so sure.
Mourinho signs a new (and very lucrative) contract in the summer and then proceeds to behave in a very bizarre manner. The bewildering business with the doctor and physio, fallling out with various players, allegedly upsetting half the team. Substituting a substitute in the case of Matic..unless through injury that is just about the ultimate insult a manager can bestow on a player. Then there was his general attitude and throw away remarks. He did little to raise moral or confidence even for the fans. Everything just became so depressing, including Jose. Did he intend to make his position untenable ? Now we have all the rumours about him making a big play for the United job. There appears to be too much, from too many sources for it all to be lies. I'm beginning to wonder if he had some long term plan in mind from the beginning of the season. Or am I just reading too much into all the media talk ? |
