As for not being convinced, you do know he's won two german titles with Borussia Dortmund, beating the mighty Bayern Munich on both occasions, no easy feat with the players they've had the last 10 years. He's one of the top managers out there, had he not signed for us when he did, no doubt Chelsea would have been in for him as he was the hottest free agent out there, apart from Carlo but he was never coming back.”
I can sort of see what the poster is saying.
Being liked by neutrals (or by anyone) is not important, Yes its nice but I really don't think its important. People "like" all sorts of things.
Yes he is a very good manager that is not in doubt but I would like to see more of him before I say he is a top manager. Would I want him at Chelsea? Not at the moment, Yes he is very emotive and passionate and as football fans we like to see that but rather a manager has other abilities first. Liverpool is a perfect fit for him at the moment, The league is going to become more and more competitive over the next couple of seasons, The teams who can attract certain players is going to increase and that will be good test of his abilities. This summer will be massive for him, He will have a very difficult transfer window to contented with (as will many clubs) and it will be interesting to see how he (and Liverpool as a business) handle it.
At the moment I think he will do a pretty decent job at Liverpool maybe not quite as good as some sections of the media are saying but I can see why they are going down the route they are and he might have the needed abilities to do so but will need to see him putting those abilities into practice first before I label him a "top" manager. IMO saying someone is a "top" person in their field should mean they are part of a very short list
