It looks like we've made a real signing ! Michy Batshuayi is undergoing a medical this afternoon. He's the exciting young Belgian player who came on and scored from Hazard's cross. Only 22 years old, he looks a terrific prospect. The fee is said to be in the region of £33m.

From what I saw last season, Ake could challenge Baba Rahman for the LB position. Ake looked better defensively, Rahman is probably a bit quicker and occasionly puts in a decent cross. But Ake had a good season and I'd have found it a difficult choice between the two of them.
Rahman is already sounding disgruntled about not getting enough starts, and Lazio are apparently interested at around £13m. I hope this isn't another decision we live to regret. |

Transfer fee is about right and what you would expect to pay in today's market. |

an interesting (if overpriced) signing Strikers often come at a premium. He is only something like 22 Has only been at the club a short while and had a very good season for them. According to reports his previous club was due quite a large percentage of any future fees so his current club would want to ensure they got a decent figure for him so they could replace him. Has a number of clubs after him so that will mean the price would go up. Taking all the relevant factors into account the fee seems about right |

Im never happy paying such amounts for a player with his record so far, but i understand your points.
Now he is here, i hope he goes on to justify that value. Where will he play? If Conte plays two upfront I assume to with be him and Costa. If we play one upfront and Costa stays I assume it will he will be challenging Costa for a starting place |

he is playing a 3-5-2 formation, although it switches to a 5-2-3 with italy
We needed another decent striker no matter what formation he plays and this one ticks looks like he ticks most of the boxes again regardless of the formation. Of course as we complete more business (both bringing in and shipping out of players) once again it will enable us to gather more information on the way we might set up |

To be honest, I'm just happy to see us get a deal done.
It came a bit out of the blue, I thought we were still interested in Morata, Lukaku etc. The figure doesn't surprise me, Spurs, Palace and West Ham from the EPL were interested together with Juventus and a couple of othe European clubs. I think Palace were even prepared to break their transfer record and pay £31m. Haven't seen enough of him to judge him as a player. I've read a few complimentary reports on him this afternoon and I'd assume Conte must have been ok with the signing. At present he looks more of a secondary striker than a target man, but he's physically strong so that could change. I'm quite excited about the signing, I had my doubts about paying a fortune for Morata. |

Did he not turn down Palace? I think their bid pushed forward our buying of him.
We saw other clubs was serious about buying him and a sale could be agreed so we just got in made a sensible bid instead of doing what we seem to have done lately and gone backwards and forwards with bids that was unlikely to be accepted just to save a relatively small amount of money. We need to do all our business in such a way, Identify a player/role see if the player is available then put in a sensible bid based on all the factors (age, contract, importance of role, selling clubs situation etc etc) and not waste valuable time and resources trying to save a few million quid. We have a lot of work to do between now and the start of the season as do many clubs and cannot get involved in piss*ngs contests |

We've just sold a player (who's name escapes me) that never got to wear a Chelsea shirt. I know it's business, but do we really make much out of it in the long run ? |

Depends if we get any part of future sales as well. For example this recent signing I think his former club gets quite a large chunk from what we just paid
I have no problem if we buy young players and not necessarily play them. Mostly they are a cheap investment which can provide income in the future. With the amount of income from TV sooner or later levelling out and us being quite a distance from increasing our income from match days then sales from our youth set up could be quite useful. |

Chelsea needed to make use of the "buy to let" ( (c) codeblue) market when we were trying to compete with rich clubs with bigger stadia and within financial fair play.
Obviously ffp is now a dead duck, there is no need for us to do this so aggressively. However, it is a nice little market still and contributes to the club. |

I think it should be something we do aggressively regardless of FFP being as important as before.
We need to do everything we can do to bring in new revenue streams and less relent on Roman. If you look at the perfect business model for a premiership club Man Utd they have so many different streams that even in seasons when they are less successful then previous ones they just open up a new way of bringing cash into the club. If we get the new ground of course that will be a massive help a real game changer for us BUT we should not rest on just that. Any way of making money has to be kept open going forward. The pipe dream of another Busby Babes or Class of 92 (or Fergies Fledglings) is not going to happen, The business has changed too much for that to happen so flipping youth players makes an awful lot of sense as the game stands today |

People purchased that club with a mortgage on the club itself instead of their own money. Its also floated a proportion on the stock market, to raise capital - so now they have money going out of the club paying dividends to shareholders. However i do agree with you, chelsea should keep the BTL players going. It may produce small change, but it does add up. |

If you look at the income they generate from the many many different streams it shows how successful they are as a business. Even with the new ground while I see us closing the gap on them I think they will always be the leaders in making money from different sectors and opening up new ones (of course that will become more and more difficult as time goes on). The brand is so strong (and up there with some of the strongest brands around) and that is what we need to try and follow |

Omeruo loaned to Besiktas for the season. (covering his wages, but nothing else)
Seems like Christensen is the only one who has ever impressed enough for his loan team to try and make it permanent. Any bets on where Kalas, Moses, Marin, and van Ginkel will end up this season?? |

Kalas showed some promise for us, he's been doing ok at Middlesborough and I wouldn't be surprised if they don't make his loan a permanent deal. Moses picked up an injury after doing well at West Ham. I always thought he was a decent enough player to have around as back-up, but we should release him if he wants to leave, we've messed him around enough. Marin was never going to make it in the EPL. A tricky little winger has to really be something special to make an impact here, and he was never the "German Messi" they hyped him up to be early in his career. |

Quote from an Italian journalist.
Conte starts his press conference by getting a round of applause from the journalists. Sky Italia say that this doesn't happen often, and when it does its special. That says it all. I love how Conte says one of the reasons he decided to leave was because of all the negativity. And now those same people are applauding him Just goes to show that in life, you can't let others opinions drag you down. Make it motivate you to prove them wrong If Conte listened to the media, the newspapers, the fans, none of this wouldn't happen. He listened to the only person that matters...himself |

We've signed Batshuayi. Costa is staying. We're - apparently - still looking at Morata.
I'd rather at least 10 defenders and 4 midfielders to be honest. |

I know we've been linked to Pelle, which if nothing else gives us a decent third option behind Costa and Batshuayi if we can't get Morata. I'd expect to see Giaccherini continue to be linked to us too. He's one of Conte's favourite players. |
