Quote from an Italian journalist.

Conte starts his press conference by getting a round of applause from the journalists. Sky Italia say that this doesn't happen often, and when it does its special. That says it all.

I love how Conte says one of the reasons he decided to leave was because of all the negativity. And now those same people are applauding him

Just goes to show that in life, you can't let others opinions drag you down. Make it motivate you to prove them wrong

If Conte listened to the media, the newspapers, the fans, none of this wouldn't happen. He listened to the only person that matters...himself
Great to see the respect he's earned in the game.

We've signed Batshuayi. Costa is staying. We're - apparently - still looking at Morata.

I'd rather at least 10 defenders and 4 midfielders to be honest.
Yes, if Costa is definitely staying, I don't see the need for Morata.
We don't know for certain if Conte will play with two up front, or if it will work for us. If we go back to a single front man, we'll probably only have about 45 games to play this season, not enough to keep three expensive, ambitious strikers busy. Pelle might not be a bad idea. It would be a cheaper, short term option, he is used to the EPL and would give us something a bit different.
As you say, there are other areas that need attention and unless we suddenly have unlimited funds available, we need to spend wisely.

The trouble is are the players we need in the areas we need available? If the 1st choice is not available I can see some sense in going for 2nd choice but after that I think we would be wasting our money. If 1st/2nd choices are not available we need to make do with what we have got. Batshuayi might not have been a high priority but other clubs seemed to be moving in on him so we either had to move now or risk losing him.

Have only ever seen Batshuayi play in his brief sub appearances at the Euros, so have no idea if this is a good signing or not. At least it's an incoming player though, seeing as our main rivals have wasted no time in making moves in the transfer market.

Remy will surely be moved on, but I hope Traore will remain in the squad next season. If Conte is planning to play with 2 strikers lining up together then we probably have room for 4 in the squad.... Costa, Batshuayi, Traore and one other.

Conte's style of play is ideal for Chelsea. Have never, ever supported Chelsea, but a beautiful Italian at the helm does make me want to root for them a little

So the latest on the Chelsea Transfer rumour mill:

As always these are apparently's and allegedly's.

Even though we've signed Batshuayi we still want Morata. Arsenal want him too though. Real Madrid could ask for around £50-£60m which if true I hope we don't pay that.

Morata's good but not that good.

Graziano Pelle is the backup option and would cost around £12m. A lot more sensible and would be a good third option behind Costa and Michy.

As I mentioned yesterday we are close to signing Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli for £30m. Conte wants to build the defence around him but Napoli are of course very reluctant to lose him .

We want N'Golo Kante who has a release clause of £20m. Think this would be a brilliant signing for us. He's been awesome for France at the Euros (and Leicester obviously) and would certainly bolster our midfield.

I think all of the above would certainly improve the squad, and give Conte something to work with to aim for Silverware.

Oh, and Costa has confirmed he is going to stay the Bridge, which is good to hear. Hopefully he becomes the goalscoring beast once more.

Antonio Conte is a world class manager and one of the best coaches out there, if not the best according to some. He needs a strong squad having said that and the current squad is not good enough.

There's talk of Matic going to Juventus, and as long as he's playing at his best, he's a player we need to keep. It's Oscar who should be on his way, along with Ivanovic and possibly Mikel. Loftus Cheek isn't ready, and he just doesn't get stuck in enough.

Christensen should come back from loan, and Kalidou Koulibaly looks very good. Stones won't be joining and it looks like City have got their man there for around £50 million. Long term, he's worth that. Bonucci for £38 million would be a good bet, and he's a player who could lead the defence.

Up front, Costa could be sold, and he should be if he can't stop reacting in the predictable way he has been doing. Every time he overreacts, the opposition just think job done. Will he ever learn? He's still a great player, but looks an idiot when he boils over the way he does. Him and Batshuayi would be a potent main two, battling for the first team spot, with a good youngster as a third squad member. Solanke? Why not, as long as he gets minutes on the pitch every now and then.

Over at Man Utd, I'm not convinced by mozza at all. He doesn't fit the Utd style, and never will. A short term solution who could do a lot of long term damage at the club. When he comes back to the Bridge, there should be no fear of him, or Wazza for that matter.

We still need more midfield steel and Andre Gomes would be very good. Maybe a £45 million bid would do the trick. Even then, the squad needs a N'Golo Kante type player. Someone who gets around the pitch and gets stuck in. Mikel isn't mobile enough, and Loftus Cheek seems to want to stroll around too much. Lampard could do that and could justify it because he scored or set up so many goals. Even then, he could also tackle when needed. Players like RLC need to realise that the premiership is a big step up, and if you're not making regular assists or scoring regularly, you need to tackle more, or get shipped out. It's as simple as that.

When it comes to paying big money for players, the Chelsea scouts should be looking at Athletico's targets, Southampton's targets and even Leicester's targets. They have regularly bought bargains and sold them on for three or four times the money. You don't need to spend tens of millions to get the best players around, that's clear. Up front Athletico have brought through the likes of Torres, Aguero, Falcao, Costa and now Griezmann. I'd just watch what they're doing and get in there first. Simple. Similar with Southampton, especially with youth.

The midfield needs more strength, but I'd still sign Mata again. Oscar out, Mata in. His link up play, passing, etc is exceptional, as are his corners and free kicks. It was his corner that set up Drogba for the CL win, let's not forget.

Hopefully your "Kante type player" will actually be Kante!

I think we dodged a bullet by not overpaying for Stones. 50million is utterly ridiculous.

Hopefully Conte can get us some no nonsense Italian defenders for half the price

Not sure about juan mata back to us, but it would be one in the eye for jose!

So we are meant to spend money on wages and a transfer fee because of some childish nonsense of "one in the eye for Jose"? How exactly is it "one in the eye" for him? If he wants to sell him then surely it would be "one in the eye for us" to give him extra money for players he actually wants? Almost as ridiculous as thinking managers/clubs spend money because two parties share a agent

A luxury player who Is not needed at the moment (not sure he is needed at all with realistic aims for a title challenge) we have far more important things to do with the time and the money it would take for such a transfer

That ship has sailed. He had two wonderful seasons with us, and I was against selling him at the time. But he hasn't been quite the same player since.
I would actually like to see Oscar given one last chance working with Conte. Conte has (allegedly) told Oscar that he wants him to stay and if he could regain his early form he would be a Conte "type" player.
According to reports, we have been linked with a couple of midfielders (Joao Mario and Feiipe Anderson) who aren't in the same class as Oscar at his best..in my opinion.

I'm afraid it's going to be the same as many people thought at the end of last season. The very best players are absurdly expensive and/or don't want to join us. We have therefore been forced to lower our sights and still pay prices that would have looked ridiculous just a year or so ago. We have even been gazumpted by Everton in our pursuit of Koulibaly according to some reports ! We are living in different times.

Agreed. Ridiculous to buy a player on that basis.
And you're right, he's not needed anyway. We've moved on.

And continue to do so until we move into the ground.

Many teams have access to big amounts of money for the first time so will splash the cash that should settle down in a season or so.

Southampton players have been ridiculously overpriced and Liverpool have been mugged off. You might be happy with them at Liverpool but Chelsea need better players than that mate.

Never seen the logic behind comparing difference clubs transfer business it's simplistic at best and bad business at its very worst.

We have very different needs and are run in a very different way (as each club is) for us to copy a business model.

As the new money kicks in the "bargains" will come less and less common for clubs like Southampton of course they will still get some but the bigger the brand the more they have to pay for assets (even if other brands can get them for less money)

Anyone catch Conte's press conference?

Have to say I was expectant anyway but was really impressed with what he said. He's really passionate about the game and he really showed the determination he has to succeed here. A good conference from him and hope he can achieve success.

And to say his English isn't apparently all that good he spoke really well. He's got a good grasp of the English language.

Really enjoyed it.

English was decent enough that the players will know what he wants & he is improving all the time.

His ethic seems to be work work work! Some of those players won't know what's hit them

I know talk is cheap, it's about results but I like what I see so far - looking forward to Rapid Vienna though not expecting miracles seeing he has only just met squad & some are yet to arrive back.
