I think it's that word "potential" again. As Don says, Lukaku has proved himself in the EPL. People tend to forget that he's still only 23, but he's had four full seasons of Premiership football already ! He scored 17 for WBA, then 16, 20 and 25 for Everton (in all competitions ). That's impressive by any standards.
I'd agree, he doesn't look like a £75m player to me either, even in the current inflated market. But given his age, I think there's a fair chance that he is still capable of moving to a level higher. If you look around Europe at players of around that age, Lukaku must be right up there in terms of potential, and he's probably ahead of most with what he has achieved already.
So, not the perfect buy for me. But by no means the worst either. Do we need him while we have Costa though, he surely wouldn't be happy as a back-up ?
