So Jose plan works to a tee.
The only reason he dropped Casillas is because he knew in a couple of years he would be back at Chelsea and buying Costa and wanted him to have as much as rest during the Summer as possible. This man is the devil and will bring the end of Football. He has wreaked Spain's World Cup dream just for his own glory |

Costa didn't look match fit to me. I'm sure with a pre season and pacy wingers in the team he should be able to replicate his form for Atletico.

If this is true, it will be the end of his time at Chelsea.
I assume it's true as it's from the BBC Quote Former Chelsea and England footballer Kerry Dixon has been charged with a drugs offence. The 52-year-old former striker of Jardine Way, Dunstable, Bedfordshire, was charged with possession of a class A controlled drug. |

It is a shame. A club 'legend', on what i assume is a very nice gig being hospitable on match days with fans, now tarnished in this way.

I really hope 2 defenders are sitting back at home tonight and laughing and thanking the media for ensuring they had no connection to the rabble in Brazil

Still annoying to watch Daniel Sturridge though, he wasn't great tonight but he still offers far more than any of our current strikers. It was a big mistake letting him go. |

Yes, but the one we did have over there was probably the best defender England had. I thought Cahill had a decent game. I don't know what's happened to Leighton Baines, I would sooner have Ashley Cole with one leg than that muppet.

I would not trust the rest of them to defend a 3 goal lead with 10 minutes to go. Glen Johnson having one England cap is a source of national embarrassment on its own |

I hope Costa gets a thorough medical before we hand over any cash as he's definitely carrying an injury. Saying that, he was miles better than a fully fit Torres so he's an upgrade regardless.

He was a lot fitter than Suarez, but Suarez was still wrold class, while Costa looked like a division 2 player.
I must admit, I do worry that he might be a one season wonder, and he really has to score because his all-round game doesn't appear to be as good as other contemporary strikers. But it's hard to think of any logical alternatives. Falcao had a serious injury, there must be a doubt if he will return the same player. Cavani looked decent last night, but in previous games he didn't look a player worth £50/60m. Lewandowski is on his way to Bayern, and we're not going to get the likes of Messi, Ronaldo or Neymar. I quite like the look of Wilfred Bony and a few others, but they would all be a gamble. You can see by Arsenal and Spurs that it's not easy to find a quality striker at the right price, and we know from experience that even paying a fortune doesn't always guarantee success. |

I agree with you about the shortage of real top class strikers and the question marks against the likes of Costa and Falcoa.
I've seen Costa 7 times now and have been extremely unimpressed with him in every game. I'm also not that keen on Cavani and certainly not at anywhere near the prices being quoted. Some might laugh at this, but for a cheap option who would score us goals, i'd have gone for Defoe, for a couple of seasons. |

There are just not that many top strikers out there and on the market 30 for Costa is a better deal than 50 plus for falcao or cavani? Costa, Torres, Lukaku and ba could be a good mix, especially as we now have the worlds best midfield! Willian, matic, fabregas, schurrle, oscar and of course hazard. Blimey, if we had hung on to mata it would be an embarrassment of riches. |

Sign a striker that had to leave Spurs because he could barely get a game? I've heard it all now.

We signed a well past it, 35 year old Eto, who was playing in the Russian league.
Defoe is a proven scorer in the PL, who still has a bit of pace, decent movement and still only 32 years old. He was still playing well at Spurs, but AVB didn't fancy him so he was edged out by the new signings, just like Mata was at Chelsea. I'd certainly back him to score more goals than Ba, Torres or Luka. |

Rumours that we are after Lavezzi again, prepared to offer £18m. Good player but I can't see where he'd fit. He's 29 and with the FFP rules, surely the days are gone when we could pay serious money for someone who's unlikely to be a first choice ?
Also rumours that Arsenal are after Ivanovic and are preparing an offer of £7m..wow, last of the big spenders, no wonder they can never buy anyone decent. |

I remember reading a long time ago that Defoe was a Chelsea fan and always dreamed of playing for us, we can only guess at how things might have turned out. Too late now though. |

There is no business value in buying Defoe, He has signed a 4 year contract worth around 90k per week (plus very good add-ons I am sure). Eto'o was available due to serious money problems at his club. Defoe would not it in to the system that we are currently using. |
