I thought the Ivanovic rumour was nonsense until I saw £7m. That's definitely Wenger

In yesterday's games, Omeruo and Atsu (again) were both excellent. Probably no place for them in our squad, but it's increased their sell-on value. I'm not sure what to think about that kind of business, but I suppose it's the way of the world in modern football. Footballers appear to be becoming investments rather than players that may one day play for the club ?

Its going to be a very useful revenue income for us more so in these days of FFP.

When buying players we need to see what they can do for us for a few seasons on the pitch but also what they can bring to us when we sell them on.

That's why the Costa deal is so good, Its not a massive amount of cash so even if he does not work out when we sell him on we will still get a decent price for him.

Any deals going forward need to be good for football and good for business.

Thirty million is a huge amount of cash.

Then again, we have fifty million for Luiz and thirty seven for mata to spend.

And another twenty if Lukaku goes.

It's not when you look at the prices of other players and goal scorers.

30m is quite a reasonable amount nowadays

50 for falcao or cavani, but I think those two players have missed the boat

We would never get near that money on resale value. 30m is a much better figure. He does not work out and will still be worth a reasonable amount, a 50m figure would be more difficult figure to get near to

Yes, I understand the reason behind it. I just find it strange, buying a player who may never see Stamford Bridge let alone pull on a Chelsea shirt. We now have a "portfolio" of players out on loan who have very little chance of ever making the squad.
But it appears to be good business as you say.

While they on a books they help with the waste of time "the home grown" rule and when off them they add to the balance sheet. Don't make any sense to me with regards to what football should be about but in this media bubble Sky etc have created for the game it makes sense and like the continued changes to the fixtures list it's just something we need to do nowadays

To young not enough big match experience and lots of over hype (mainly due to the fact he has scored some goals while not playing for Chelsea)

Very good player just not ready yet

No, young Divock Origi who came on as substitute looked more impressive, and he's only 19. I don't think there will be a long queue of clubs prepared to pay a fortune for Lukaku. I still think he'll make a top class striker, but he has a lot to learn.

We have to ask ourselves, is Chelsea first team the place to learn that?

Perhaps he should have another year on loan, or should we cut our losses (make a profit) and sell him on for 20 plus million.

If its the latter, please not to another prem club!

Chelsea is not where anyone should be learning. We dont have time to teach players. We have the loan system and have to use it. I would now loan to a EUROPA cup team and a top 4/5 team. Get him use to a team that has to play twice a week and one that has some pressure on the players.

Think selling him now would be a year or so too early.

He did ok for us. It's just like Lukaku he has a lot to learn still, but let's face it, with the likes of Schurrle and Salah brought in during the last year (who aren't even first choice players themselves) Moses should be moved on as he'd barely get a game with us now. Shame he joined Liverpool on loan last year as it's done his development no use at all, he probably would have been better off at somewhere like Everton or even Newcastle.

Yes, there's a lot of players around like Moses. Finding the one that's really something special is difficult. The emergence of Raheem Srerling at Liverpool meant his chances were limited. He did ok for us, had a few good games and never really let us down. But it's hard to see him making that breakthrough and becoming a regular starter.
I haven't seen any definite offers for Moses, do West Brom just want him on loan ?

We were pretty much in with a shout for the league till the end, Lukaku had he been available for the whole season would have turned a couple of draws into wins, a couple of losses into draws - enough to take us over the line. Mistake by Mourinho

Possibly, but Lukaku made it clear that he wasn't interested in sitting on the bench waiting for his chance. As much as I've criticised Torres, it would have been a brave decision to sideline him and make Lukaku our first choice striker. So Mourinho had little alternative but to loan him out again. From memory, it was Lukaku who pushed for the loan ?
It's the same for this coming season, Lukaku appears to want guarantees that he'll play, Mourinho can't give them. Actually Lukaku seems an intelligent young man, I'm surprised he can't see that it might be in his own interests to come back to Chelsea for a season and take his chances. Diego Costa might fail, and Torres is unlikely to suddenly find his old form. If things went his way, Lukaku could find himself as our number one by January next year.

Lukaku needs to spend some time with Mourinho. He has a lot to work on...no one better to get the best out of him. I hope he has a future here, but I'm losing hope more and more every day.

Of course it will.

Coasta Rica still have a lot to play for, and we suddenly make 9 changes - a team that have never played together.

Its going to be a rout.
