Quite possibly, if he can improve his finishing. Needs to be scoring chances like that one at Old Trafford the other day.

Be interesting to see what sort of team we'll put out tonight at Shrewsbury. Will Drogba start again? It won't be Solanke as he played for the U21 side last night.
This was the Independent's guess:
Potential line-up (4-3-3): Petr Cech; Kurt Zouma, Nathan Ake, Gary Cahill, Filipe Luis; John Obi Mikel, Ramires, Lewis Baker; Mohamed Salah, Willian, Andre Schurrle.

Both RB's suspended, but I wouldn't fancy Zouma against a quality winger. If they're right, he should switch with Ake in my opinion. But it is only a guess.

Surprised to see Drogba again, he hasn't had much time to recover from Sunday. I'm hoping that means Costa and/or Remy must be close to fitness for the weekend.

Salah doing his absolute best to make Schurrle's shots look half-decent.

Not much to get excited about so far. We've not troubled the Shrewsbury keeper at all.

It's fair to say that the b team is not gelling!

Yes, I think you could say that. I don't know what Schurrle was thinking about with that header, it looked like a simple nod-in to me and he puts it back across goal.

Keeper was rushing out, could have nodded it past him. Very poor.

We should not need to bring on hazard to beat this lot

1-0 but not exactly a vintage display of football... As usual our b team isnt really gelling, players who arent used to playing first team football looking rusty.

We should still win though..

Ake looks good.

Terrible performance though. Fast losing patience with Schurrle.

Yep, Schurrle and Salah showed why they're not first choice.

A good result against dogged opposition on a tricky away ground.

Player ratings:

Cech - no problems - 7

Cahill - good - 7
Luis - v good - 8
Zouma - mature performance - 7
Christensen - especially considering he's new to the first team - v good - 7 / 8. Very sure footed, and good discipline. Looks like a future first team regular.

Mikel - poor overall. Looks like he needs a new challenge at another club. Guilty re' Shrews equaliser - 5 / 6
Ake - starting to challenge for the Ramires position. Very good - 7 / 8
Oscar - worked hard for the team throughout - 7 / 8
Schurrle - quiet but solid - 7
Salah - some very poor / embarrassing final balls / attempts at goal - 5 / 6

Drogba - lead the line very well. A towering performance - 8

Subs: Willian, great ball whipped in for the second goal - 7 / 8

Yes, even without his goal it would have been a fine performance by Didier tonight. I know the opposition weren't great, but Oscar just oozed class as well.
Tougher than it should have been, but we got the result and hopefully avoided any injuries.

I didn't think Schurrle and Salah were THAT bad, it was just shocking finishing that let them down. At least we know Schurrle can finish, he's proved that many times in the past.
With Salah I'm not so sure. We've had similar players in the past who look good on the ball but didn't produce an end result. I've a feeling Salah could be the same.

Yep I know what you mean. I'm not convinced he'll be here for the long-term.

Drogba did well again as you said a few posts up. I wasn't at all keen on the idea of bringing him back as a player, but have to say I'm pleasantly surprised so far - he's proving a useful back-up to Costa and Remy.

Drogba' s best game for us. Looked very very tired in the last few minutes, but he did play on Sunday!

Oscar was everywhere and ran the show.

Zouma was ok, fitted in well. Luis the same, very assured.

The midfield of milkkel and ake was the area that let the shrews have so much attack. It just didn't work. Milkkel is far far from matic, and ake is no fabregas.

I don't get the hate on schurrle. He needs games and is a wonderful player. He had a great shot saved from 35 yards.

Salah has something, just did not show it last night bar his assist to drogba.

Credit to Shrewsbury - made it a tough game.

Didier Drogba - 2 games in 3 days - this beast does not need a rest

Salah & Schurrle's finishing was shocking. Willian gets the nod for me.

Ake & Christensen did a good job.

Drogs stayed for over half an hour after the game on the pitch signing & having pictures taken with the Shrewsbury fans. Asked if being Captain motivated him, he said he didn't need motivation with our away support behind him.

Could I love this guy any more.

Typical cup game against "lower level" team.

We played ok but when playing this sort of game the result is more important then the result (more so then normal).

Get the job done and move on to more important matters.

Good for fans to get to go to a different football ground (or what some posters on here would call a "proper ground and a proper football team") and good for those players to experence playing against some great players (4 Champions League winners and a World Cup winner from memory).

Yes, I loved it when Didier lay down and took his "little rest" near the end. Even the Shrewsbury fans and players could see the funny side. Almost any other player would have received a chorus of boos and catcalls, but the guy commands respect.
Interestingly, the Shrewsbury fans still remember Zola with affection, our other genuine legend.

I think with Zola you will find the same in many many places. You could just not help but loving the guy, He could score 4 goals past your team and you would still wanna shake him by the hand and give him a hug. He played with a smile on his face and not matter if you kicked him all over the pitch he would just carry on and swap shirts with you after the game. Plus the performance he gave when we played them in the FA cup was such a joy to watch, Many of them would have been there that night and would have rememberd it
