Yes, it's a difficult one. You appear to be well informed, do you attend meetings and suchlike ? As I said, I only follow the bits and pieces that come up in the media occasionally. For something so important, most fans (like myself) appear to be ill informed about what is going on. I'm ashamed to say, I don't even know why the Battersea Power Station deal collapsed, that sounded really exciting at the time.
I think the fact that fans dont know is a sign the club is doing a bad job of getting their message across, I think you find that in most of the clubs that are higher up the table the same thing can be said and thats why i think the C.P.O are so important, They have a big stick to wheld and something Utd,Liverpool,Arsenal,City etc have not a hope in hell of getting so should not be given up just like that. I bet Arsenal fans now paying 1k for a season ticket wished they had such a big say when they moved grounds. |

As I have been going since I was a kid and the same for the old man (50 years + now for him going to games) have got to know people who do (and there is a very good and funny podcast that a bunch of fans do after most games with well informed people involved, if people dont already they really should go to i-tunes and get it every week) and hear bits and bobs when talking to randoms in pubs before games.

To be fair, I think most of the big clubs did the same, but in our case it seems like turkeys voting for Christmas. I'm guessing that we probably didn't have any alternative, but what do your connections feel about the idea in general ? To me, FFP just creates another elite, the big established clubs that have worldwide support will reign forever. No more new kids on their exclusive block, we probably joined just in time but will have problems staying there. The new system seems even more unfair than the free-for-all it replaced. |

Thanks, I'll check out that podcast if I can work out how it's done , I'm no expert on those type of things as you can probably guess.

I dont mind us voting for it as I think its good PR for something that really has no teeth. Plus after 10 years of massive investement and some sucess we should really be able to get though it without to much trouble, We have less senior big earning players now and really should be looking at bringing some of our youth though plus with the "value" someone like Jose brings in from companies looking to do sponsership deals with someone. It would have bothered me more when Roman bought us but now we should have the framework in place to combat it and if we have not then we deserve what we get |

I think if you search Chelsea fancast in google (or I-tunes if you have that) you should be able to find it ok. I think they even stream it live nowadays so if you look when they are doing it you just use it like you would i-player etc and dont need to be good on computers. Its like a bunch of fans sitting in a pub chatting utter rubbish but they have had some good gueast on (Jason Cundy has been on it and a couple of reporters for the redtops) and they are real fans (so expect some bad words if we lose or something big happens) but for any Chelsea fan I would say to give it ago, they are 100% baised towards Chelsea of course ha ha

Poor so far. We appear to be trying to win it at a stroll. Fabregas seems to be out of sorts again, I would get Ramires on and up the tempo even if it's only for 20 minutes. Let's get the game won before we take it easy.

Just wasn't our night. The perfectly good Fabregas goal being incorrectly chalked off, the foul on Oscar in the box not being given, and their keeper having a blinder. Shame we had to go a goal down before we started playing.
At least Schalke lost. |

Maribor 1 v Chelsea 1
Poor from Chelsea. Too slow and laborious early on, poor link up from Drogba with Hazard. Schurrle very poor, and didn't look interested. Is the November curse about to strike again?!
Hazard was brilliant apart from the penalty miss, but it's a team game, and he needs players who are prepared to play the quick, precise football that he plays virtually all of the time. Maribor played well, but Chelsea handed it to them. It was similar last year when Chelsea gave up with the PL. Mourhino's comments didn't help back then - 'we have no chance', when they clearly did still have a chance, and his comments before this game were stupid as well - 'Chelsea need a lot of chances to score and scoring 2 goals from 2 chances if fake'. Stupid. Most of the press conference also consisted of him - 'I, I, I, me, me, me...' Again, stupid. It's about the club, the players, the fans not him. Overall, 3 / 10. There were some good performances - as mentioned Hazard. Also Terry, but that's about it, and as a team overall Chelsea were extremely poor. |

Strange game, not like a Mourinho team at all. We appeared to lose all shape and it bacame all about individuals. There was some nice stuff to watch at times, particularly from Hazard. But it's not the way I want to see Chelsea play.

Yep, know what you mean. After going a goal down we played as if it was a knock-out cup-tie, rather than the fourth match of a CL group. Even after the equaliser we were still throwing caution to the wind.

From the outside looking in I think Mourinho is getting edgy about performances against so called 'lesser' sides; Shrewsbury was limp, QPR was a struggle and now Maribor took them all the way. It's almost as though the side is going through the motions - could Mourinho be realising this and is trying to get a reaction from the squad by reacting radically to issues?

November blues?
You hope it's not going to be another one of those November's where Chelsea start to drop points and lose.
Against QPR, Maribor and maybe Man Utd, the warning signs were there, and Chelsea are still unbeaten, but imo it's best to address the problems before close wins or draws start turning into defeats. Park the bus teams who play on the counter. A big problem last year and starting to be a problem again. Solution? When Chelsea are struggling to score it's usually because forwards aren't making the right runs, passes in and around the penalty area are too sloppy, not precise enough or too slow, the team is not playing on the same wavelength with the right intensity and link up play isn't good enough. For example, a ball is crossed into the box low and hard, but there's no one even trying to get on the end of it. Imo, if Willian or any other player is going to whip a cross in, aim for someone. In a park the bus situation like this, Chelsea make basic errors such as starting to commit more and more players forward, leaving them exposed at the back, when a lack of players up front is not the problem. It's the lack of precision and the lack of intensity etc that is causing the problem. In a situation like this, the opposition invariably scores on the counter. Hazard is the exception, and almost always plays quick, precise passes and tries to pick a team mate out when playing a ball into the penalty area. Man Utd under Fergie were masters at beating park the bus teams, and winning goals were often the result of precise whipped in low balls that just needed a touch or a flick from an alert, sharp player such as Solskjaer, Cole, Rooney, Tevez, Hernandez (not Berbatov, too slow) etc. Chelsea have had those type of players as well. E.g. Drogba, Crespo, Anelka (at times). Not Shevchenko or Torres as they had slowed too much by the time Chelsea bought them. The team seems to want an easy game every now and then which you can understand over a long season. It's possible to win games and conserve energy, but at key points in the match, the team has to be able to move up a gear or 3 and quickly change the pace to score crucial goals. At the moment, the only player who is consistently doing that is Hazard, and it's a team game. You would hope that the squad addresses the problems that have crept in to recent games, and sort them out before defeats start to build up. When you're defending, defend, and when you're attacking, attack like you mean it. Problem solved. Come on the Chels'! |

November blues? We've only played 2 games this month so far, a win and a draw (which would have been a win were it not for a bad offside call). How about showing a bit more faith in the team? Wednesday was a lax performance, but I'm sure we'll be a lot more motivated for tomorrow.

When you're defending, defend, and when you're attacking, attack like you mean it. Problem solved. Come on the Chels'! We did have plenty of attempts on goal against Maribor, it was just that the finishing was abysmal. But we did appear to just pile players foward at times, and it was often quantity rather quality. From what I've seen in the past, just putting more and more fowards on in the hope of snatching a goal seldom works. When he's back regularly, Costa will be our man in the box to latch on to the crosses you mention. But he could do with more help from Willian, Oscar or Hazard..depending on the passage of play. The form of Fabregas has dipped since the United game, that's made a big difference. The problem with that (as I see it) is Fabregas is no Lampard. For Lampard (in his prime) a rare below-par performance was usually still worthy of a 6 or 7. When Fabregas doesn't produce the goods he goes missing, and it's a 3 or 4 performance. There were still some things to be optimistic about after Wednesday night. Hazard was outstanding, unplayable at times. Matic had another towering performance. Zouma was very solid, he's beginning to look like a genuine first team player. Filipe Luis was getting foward well and combining with Hazard, don't know why he was taken off really. |
