The Costa transfer has gone quiet. I'm having second thoughts about him after watching the Pool fans squirming over Suarez's antics. Costa has similar headcase tendencies and is not even as good. We might be better off going for someone less likely to give us grief. Jackson Martinez would be my pick

It's a bit difficult to judge his true quality, but from the few times I've seen him he appears to have a better all round game than Diego Costa, even if he hasn't been playing at such a high level. The Metro says we are interested, along with Arsenal. Problem could be that Colombia's success in the World Cup has increased his value, we could be looking at nearer £40m now. Also, at 27, it's probably a case of "what you see is what you're going to get", and is he really good enough to take us up to the next level ? |

Yes, Jackson Martinez has a good scoring record, 60 goals in 91 games for Porto.

Year or so ago yea prob would have gone for him but like a couple of other strikers that could have done the job I think its just slightly to late for us sadly |

I dont see the any sell on value if we pay 40m so dont see it making that much more sense then the Costa deal when looking at the bigger picture. Plus prices always go up after the World Cup so you could even be looking 42m+ plus.

Would we really want those players we coveted a year ago, Falcao or Cavani at £50/60m ? |

i dont think we do want cavani or falcao for that price.
there are better less costly options on the market. |

No, I agree. I was just making a point about how much difference a year can make. A year or so ago, we were all hoping we'd sign one of them. Now Falcao has a bad injury and Cavani looks very ordinary. I don't think I could stand another Torres situation.

Yes, I think we should really be looking for an up-and-coming, ambitious young striker with loads of potential. Easier said than done of course, every other big club is doing the same thing. Of course, we could already have one in Lukaku. But he doesn't seem quite ready to make that step-up, and to be honest, perhaps he never will be.

Would we really want those players we coveted a year ago, Falcao or Cavani at £50/60m ? I don't think we should expect Roman to keep funding massive signings anymore more so when we will have either massive improvements to the bridge or a new ground a more important issue. |

Watching Lukaku the other day, he's far from the finished article. He was very poor and lacked a strikers instinct. It may come of course.

I agree he far from the finished article but I do see something in him that mean he turns out to be a very good striker. Dont think he will learn much from sitting on the bench at Chelsea and playing the odd League cup game |

Chelsea are preparing to swiftly make their next signing of the summer transfer window by approaching Fenerbache for Emmanuel Emenike's services, according to the Metro.
12 goals in 28 matches last season. Hope this is bullshit. |

A number of reports say we are preparing to make an enormous bid for Pogba. I certainly think he is the type of player who could transform the team. Matic and Pogba behind Hazard, Fabregas and Oscar in midfield would be awesome. Though quite how we would keep the likes of Willian, Schurrle, Salah, Ramires etc happy is anyone's guess.
Someone mentioned Marin to me the other day, I'd totally forgotten about him. I can't help feeling that we need a bit of a clearance sale this summer.

Pogba-Matic would have our CM sorted for years. The above 4 are hit/miss.

I'd certainly swap all of our strikers for James Rodriguez.

How many midfielders do we need? Can we can rid of the dozen or so who will never play for us, like van ginkel and romeu, Moses, piazon, Marin , josh m, milkkel, etc etc |

We should get a decent amount for Mikel. He's done a good job for us on occasion, and in a different league he could flourish. He's just too one-paced for the PL. |

We just need 25 quality players, the rest should be sold.
And we should stop buying so many players! |

Top English and German teams are after Atsu, so he won't be going back to Vitesse.

Wallace is off to Vitesse for the season. Should be guaranteed a starting spot for them.
