Wallace is off to Vitesse for the season. Should be guaranteed a starting spot for them.

But there is also a lot of talk about Juventus still owing Chelsea €21m over the Mutu affair. I wonder if some kind of deal to finalise that may also enter the equation ? |

Looks like Costa is confirmed as a Chelsea player - just on our website:
"Chelsea Football Club can confirm an agreement has been reached with Atletico Madrid for the transfer of Diego Costa, with Chelsea meeting the buy-out clause for the Spanish international. " The buy out is £32m. I guess that is the Luiz money spent. Welcome to the bridge, i hope he scores a bucket full next season. |

I agree. He's the kind of player I'd love to see us sign, over the next few years he could prove sensational. But it would be a massive gamble, he's not reached the level to justify that asking price yet.
The days of really big money spending has got to be over for us. Sensible spending has got to be our mantra going forward. |

Saying that, has Man City paid their fine yet? |

There's no striker we could sign that I'd be confident in tbh. We've been burnt too many times.

Wish I could be excited, but I'm really not...... We have the frame work of a very good (and balanced team) of course it might not work out but looking at it from afar everything is heading the right way, Most of the times we gone down the route of exciting signings we have ended up with egg on our faces and "waste of money comments" (from Chelsea fan's and other teams fans). Am more confident then last season and am 100% more confident then the season before that we have a very good season. |

Well, its hard to tell with Costa but he seems like the best striker on the market right now. We were never going to get someone like RVP or Suarez in all honesty.
For £32m he seems like a good buy, lets just hope his form carrys over from last season, if it does he will be a fantastic signing. I hope he can sort his injuries from late in the season as he still looked out of sort at the WC, not fully fit IMO. Our team looks a lot stronger and more balanced than a year ago when Jose rejoined. Mata and Luiz leaving has brought balance to the squad and we finally look like having a top quality squad again. Lukaku hasn't been that great for Belgium this world cup, and looks likey to leave. Costa/Torres/Ba looks like the strikers for next season. I would like to see the back of Torres but it isnt looking likely at the moment. Fabregas was a surprise for me, hes been played out if position for the majority of his time at Barca, but hopefully he can slot into the Lampard role fairly easily, he did very well at Arsenal in a similar role anyway. Overall looking strong, WC is distracting me over the summer but looking forward to the new season already now - not even too long to go! |

Potential..... If he was satisfied to start next season in a supporting role, I'd say keep him. But if he wants assurances of a first team place, we might as well sell him for as much as we can get. He's not ready for a guaranteed first team slot in any of the major club sides. Reading the Chelsea forums on other sites, feelings seem mixed about Diego Costa (much like on here) But that might work in his favour, expectations are not high, a couple of early goals (even tap-ins) and the fans will be only too willing to get behind him. He's tough and determined, I think we'll be pleasantly surprised..providing he's fully fit. |

Cannot just talk about the good stuff from a 30 minute cameo against a team that had been ran into the ground without looking at his other performances at the World Cup.
Its just more evidance for me that he is at least 2 seasons (maybe one a topish team and on the bench with us) from being anywhere near he needs to be to get anywhere near the level he needs to be to be a starting player for us/ Hopefully we wont put Costa under too much pressure at the start of the season, Due to the WC and those players still involved getting a longer break (Oscar,Hazzard,William) he wont have that much time to gel with the midfield that hopefully will supply him with the balls needed. Our first game is not ideal due to it being Burnley away and the way they will set up. I am glad he getting a nice long holiday and can get fit and Jose will have him back on the training ground as soon as possible thats all going to help him but we still have to wait for a few games before it all clicks |

Indeed.
But we should not be worrying about burnley surely? We have a team that could win the league. Costa needs to get off to a good start to get the press off his back. Keeping Torres and ba and Lukaku may be a good thing. Who is the first team keeper now? |

Not worrying about teams like Burnley is always a mistake more so when it's their first home game. |

We will miss him, he was captain material, if you could risk playing him.
I would have been upset if we only got 49 million for him, but psgs offer was just too good. |

Only about one in ten of his free kicks are on target. When they are they are unstoppable. He's a great footballer.
