Does anybody else think Ben Hardy's acting is incredibly wooden? Unfortunately I don't think he's delivering the goods on his performances throughout the Lucy storyline. He's a great looking guy but I'm struggling to find him credible since he joined EE.

I think he definately is better at melodrama. He is quite clearly a stage actor.

He probably should've been cast as a watts - they do melodrama (and with the exception of Grantham were/are all stage actors at heart).

He's incredibly wooden and, as I said in another thread, very boring to watch. He has his moments but they're few and far between.

Agreed. He's received a fair amount of praise on here recently but I still don't rate him. He has only one real facial expression: gormless.

He does know how to wear a sweater, I will say that... I think that is more likely the "source" of his acting talent in his fans eyes.

Yeah, he's a weird one. His speech at Lucy's funeral was some of the best soap acting I've ever seen, but a lot of the time he comes across as incredibly monotone. He doesn't seem to be great at just "regular" scenes; it seems to be very all or nothing with him. He's definitely stepped up his game since Lucy's death but it just hasn't been consistent.

Everytime he has something to say I just keep yelling at my TV for him to "Take of his shirt and tell us!!!"

The things I'd do... Sorry, I went too far... NO I DIDNT!

He was good when he broke down in tears in the church at Lucy's funeral, you have to give him that. It was a very good portrayal of somebody engulfed in grief. Other than that, though, I'd agree that he's quite stilted and wooden at times.

I think he is the current weakest link on the show but the cast is the strongest it's ever been imho. We have some amazing actors on EE at the mo and he doesnt quite come up to them. He has about the same skills as Scott Maslen (Jack) and I am having the same sort of response to him, just dont buy a word he says. Shame really as Peter needed to be a really good actor for this story line. Maybe they should send him travelling to clear his head and get away from all the Lucy stuff for a bit then we wont have to see him try and act upset etc.

He seems to be good at the more dramatic scenes but isn't great at the day to day stuff.

Peter Beale sounds too middle class for a lad working on a market stall in East London. Surely the actor should try and use a working class accent to be realistic. The fact that he doesn't shows the actor is limited in my opinion.
Michael French did a much better working class Londoner accent having had a middle class accent when playing a doctor.
I hope he turns out to be Lucy's killer so that he can go to prison and be written out.

I know that a lot of people aren't keen on Ben's acting but for some reason I always find him to be quite believable at the very least and rarely have a problem with him. I have a friend who watches Eastenders as well and quite often we make fun of his deeper voice but really I like him, his speech at Lucy's funeral in specific blew me away, I thought it was excellent and my heart broke for him.

The recasts of Peter, Lucy and Bobby all sound too middle class to have been brought up in the East End of London. I never understood why those in charge of casting allowed the actors to speak with their real accents but maybe they're not capable of doing accents in which case they shouldn't have been hired IMO.

Totally agree with this, and in particular with Bobby, I could never get on board with this brown haired brown-eyed public schoolboy, who would pass better as Michael McIntyre's son, rather than Ian Beale's.

The breaking down in tears part at the end of the eulogy was well done, but the actual speech leading up to it was delivered in the same monotone as usual.

I think Danielle Harold has a similar problem. She did some good crying during the Lexi storyline, but her day-to-day acting is weak, IMO. She just seems permanently awkward.

He's no Laurence Olivier but I'd hardly say he was the weakest link on the show. Khali Best is.

I like Ben Hardy, I think he's one of the better re-casts of recent years. The only young males on the show better than him IMO are Sam Strike and Jamie Borthwick

Khali Best is definitely weak but he is on a disciplinary leave and not at the centre of the biggest story so has no spotlight on him. I dont mind too much when weak actors are in small roles, I mean Laila Morse is bloody awful but is never given anything too taxing. Dexter failed and I hope the show runners see that and just keep him at a Fatboy (also an actor I dislike but also on a forced leave) level. However if Fatboy and Dexter come back and decide to move in together then I will gladly take all the Peter scenes they can throw at me lol

The Lucy recast failed and they had to kill her off, have a feeling maybe they should have just done the double and killed both twins.

Are you actually serious?

Dexter, Fatboy, Tamwar are the weak links!

I think this Peter is great, I enjoy his scenes, and the constant recasts of the character should finish with him, I see him as Peter Beale now, he made the character his own, Much better than Thomas Law,

I think Ben is ok but he's not that brilliant. He's a stage actor but I think he's improving now.

Completely agree. I think he's been great throughout the Lucy story. I don't know what more people expect from him? After just a year on the show, he's made the part his own.

He's on a par with the other young actors IMO, they all have their dodgy moments.

I think he is OK as an actor on EastEnders but its quite clear as day that it basically comes down to the fact he looks good and has a great body.

I totally agree, all three recasts have been miscast. They were definately hired for their looks rather than acting ability.

Thank god there are other people out there who think the same as me.
I think he is a dreadful actor.
I tweeted that to him and he blocked me so he must think that of himself as well
