Sony Bravia firmware update PKG4.024EUA-0104
Anyone else had this update?
Any idea if it changes anything? I can't seem to find any details on the Sony site but it's all changed since I was last there & I can't find my way about. |

It's a Sony Bravia KDL40CX523
The last few updates had some info on the Sony forums (minor bug fixes like you say) but I can't find anything this time. Aha! I googled the model number & found something, although it still doesn't give any details. http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/con...ua/KDL-40CX523 |

There's five pages of additions and bug fixes - but you need to be aware that these list every single bug fix and addition from all previous updates as well.
I don't know how well a cut and paste from the PDF is going to do, but here's the first pare from it: SYMPTOM The latest software packages have been released, both enriching the set with additional features and remedying specific issues. FWIW, I applied this update a few days ago. Everything seems fine, maybe a little change in the look & feel but it's very much the same as before.

Was there always a preview window for the selected channel in the EPG?
Something looks a bit different but maybe I'm imagining it. |

I have that update to mine (there have been about 15 since buying it).
A 0.002 update does change anything at all, it is just some bug fixes as the increment in version number indicates. The preview screen in the EPG has always been there, if you have not even noticed that then what does it matter about some minor change in the menus/services. |

I've just installed the update, and have noticed one change. The irritating dialog that used to pop up on SD channels asking if you wanted to switch to the HD version of the channel has disappeared.
Somehow the picture quality doesn't seem to look quite as good either (maybe a bit softer?), though perhaps I'm just imagining things! |

I noticed the HD pop-up had gone too, but I wasn't sure if that was due to the update. I don't remember an update to make it appear, so not sure if an update would have been needed to stop it.

I have just updated my KDL46R473A with this latest software and can't see any difference at all, the EPG didn't have, and still doesn't have a preview window (wish it did) in fact the HD Freeview channels look slightly less sharp and I had to tinker with the brightness as the screen looked a bit washed out after the update.

Updated to PKG4.025EUA-0104 on Tuesday 19th Aug. (My KDL-32CX523 did anyhow).
Only days after PKG4.024 on my set. Wonder if they found a problem with it. Sony site as usual still only knows of the previous update (.024): http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/con...2CX523#version No obvious differences with either software, but glad they're still protecting three year old sets. Shame the BBC is pulling this version of iPlayer in a couple of weeks. Good job we now have You View which does it so well. |

"We are working closely with Sony and will be migrating Sony 2011 TV devices to a new version of BBC iPlayer in September - these devices will not be closed as part of the 'Bigscreen' closure. We apologise for any distress caused due to seeing the closure message." |

Ah, well spotted. That should be very welcome for those without YouView etc.
I only stuck the ethernet in for one last visit for old times sake, and saw the (happily inaccurate) closure message. Quite good navigation for its day. Better than those creaky 'Connect' type streaming services in the 200's that were supposed to be the future of TV. Tried one the other night. Took three minutes to load. Another case of 'one last visit'... |

Since the update, I've been getting a lot of 'content error' in iPlayer.
Especially just after pausing playback. |

It's the latest 4.025 update.
I suspect it has caused this problem. |

Out of interest, sometimes if you just Google the update you get an explanation from a foreign site which you can read using Google translate.
