World Cup Group C
While Group B is a group of death, this certainly a group of life with all 4 teams hoping to get through to the knockouts
Former European champions Greece, alongside some people's dark horses Colombia, Japan and The Ivory Coast who after being unlucky with group draws in previous world cups have a real chance of getting through. To the best of my knowledge non of these teams have got any further then the 2nd round before. There may be no heavyweights but each match will very hard to call, making it a very exciting group |

I have an uncle from Colombia so I'll be supporting them to get through the group and reckon they'll be able to do so. I guess Ivory Coast are the other most likely team but that really depends on the form of Yaya Toure.

Colombia are without Falcao but they should still win the group.
Also, remember - should England get through their group, we'll be playing someone from this group. Real good chance of making the quarters. |

Really looking forward to this group because it's truly all to play for. I like the term "group of life", OP! Right, let's run through:
Colombia - definitely the favourites to win the group although Ivory Coast in particular could challenge them as I feel that will be a petty colourful combination of teams. They are by no means guaranteed to win the group but they really should given their record and outlook. I suspect they will be challenged by Ivory Coast but beat Japan and Greece. Greece - it really is time to forget Euro 2004, those are the days of the past. Greece are fairly unremarkable but capable of some nifty playing, and have a good chance of catching Japan off guard, and possibly one of the others. I don't think they'll get above 5 points, and this may come down to goal difference. Japan - never been a noteworthy competitor in the past but should never be underestimated, particularly with this excellent draw. Japan have a chance of beating Greece but will have to desperately push for points against Ivory Coast and Colombia to go further - this is entirely possible IMO. I wouldn't bet on any of that happening though. Ivory Coast - these are of course not a team who should be judged on past World Cups as they have been cursed with ridiculously tough draws on both occasions. Here they finally have an excellent chance to flourish and I would bet on them making it out of the group at last. They are not as strong as 2006 but frankly they don't need to be. Always been a fan of Ivory Coast and I will be supporting them in this group. Predictions: Colombia - 7 (drawing with Ivory Coast) Ivory Coast - 5 (beating Japan, two draws) Greece - 2 (two draws) Japan - 1 (harsh but I can't persuade myself any other way). |

I really hope Japan can make it through this group, I do seem to remember they were a team with a decent amount of flair, if not much else, though the hot climate may suit the other teams more.

I really can't see beyond Colombia and Ivory Coast for this group.
Even without Falcao, Columbia have some quality in midfield and up front. Rodriguez is a great midfield creator, Sanchez a fine anchorman, and Caudrado Is a terrific winger, now rated the best in Serie A. Up front they have Jackson Martinez who has interested most of the big clubs in Europe. Their weakness will be in defence, but I can't see Greece or Japan troubling them much. Ivory Coast will be similar in a way, strong in midfield and up front, but suspect at the back. Some old favourites like Drogba and Kalou, along with Wilfied Bony to choose from up front. Yaya Toure and Tiote in midfield..plenty of Premieship interest. Close between Colombia and Ivory Coast, the former just to edge it in my opinion. |

I can definitely see Japan edging out Ivory Coast. Japan have a fluid style of play and looked very good at the Confed Cup last year, while all the best Ivorians are the wrong side of thirty.

I think this is a really tough group to call. I can see anyone one the 4 making the last 16, but I doubt anyone here will get past whoever gets out of Group D. No quarter finalists here.
