World Cup Group G
My fav group. There are 3 groups of death but this one has no outsider.
Germany will be one of their favs but they're going to find it very hard. Portugal, USA and Ghana are all going into the tournament in decent form, US having won their 3 friendlies while Ghana beat Korea 4-0 and saw Portugal hammered Ireland 5-1 in the most recent friendlies. With Jurgen Klinsmann as the US manager , I can't wait for US-Germany. I expect this group to be mouthwatering and very hard to call |

Germany should get out of this group. It would be boring if they didn't. They probably have the greatest manger at this World Cup. They might win all three games.
I am hoping against hope that Portugal also come out of this group, but everything depends on Ronaldo. It's literally a "give Ronaldo the ball" tactic, which is why I found it incredible that their manager would risk injuring him further right before the Germany game in a stupid friendly with Ireland. Madness. |

What a chaotic group this could be. This is very tough to call and I've had to give it some thought. Here's my thoughts on this most deathly of groups:
Germany - despite the very tough competition and an unforgiving Portugal directly in their midst, Germany should safely reach the top of this group. Germany have well and truly earned their place in the upper echelons of FIFA rankings, and despite more flaws than one would expect in such a prestigious side (particularly a shaky defense), they should be able to cope with the USA and Ghana. Germany may have a tough start, but this gives them the chance to set their stall out and hit their stride straight away. USA - always a very tricky team to call. There is a general trend of the team being taken more seriously as time goes on, but this trend of course has its peaks and troughs and the USA are currently still not quite ready for the big leagues. Unfortunately, they are looking these big leagues in the face with the dual juggernaut attacks of Germany and Portugal and I do not feel confident that they can cope with it. Ghana are currently about level with them and I expect a draw, but I can't see them getting anything out of the Europeans. Portugal - they are not quite the side they used to be and rely on Ronaldo quite a lot more than they should even now, but they are still a formidable force that should most definitely threaten everyone in the group, including Germany. Portugal should be able to achieve victory against the USA, and although Ghana will cause them problems in their own half, they should achieve at least a point. As for Germany, I feel this is a little too much to ask of them. Still, it will be a treat to watch and it will certainly be no walkover. Ghana - Coming off an incredible debut in 2010 where the semi-finals rug was unjustly pulled from beneath their feet, Ghana are a team that can cause problems even for the strongest of sides, and will certainly take advantage of back-end issues, which both Germany and Portugal suffer from. Ghana have a real chance of getting out of the group, and it will probably be between them and Portugal. A very, very tough call and Ghana should put in another strong performance in any case. Predictions: Germany - 7 (drawing with Portugal) Portugal - 5 (drawing with Germany and Ghana, beating USA) Ghana - 4 (drawing with Portugal, beating USA) USA - 0 (it just seems to work out this way!) |

I agree that the US will struggle in this group. They just don't have neigh quality players and leaving Landon Donovan at home was a big mistake. Sometimes you've got to swallow your pride Jurgen. Ghana could beat Portugal especially if Ronaldo is sub par.

This is my favourite group too. I can't see anything but a Germany/Portugal 1,2. But I would love Ghana to get through, I think after Suarez's hand of God moment against them at the last World Cup they've become a lot of people's second favourite team.

Gutted that Landon Donovan isn't coming. Why on earth did Jurgen Klinsmann leave him out?
