Just wanted to get peoples genuine opinions please. I've tried several times to buy a 2m lightening cable without spending £25 with Apple. So far everyone I have bought has failed after several weeks. These cables are in fixed locations and don't get moved around or treated badly. I just wondered if anyone had any sensible ideas as to why this might be?

The very cheapest (or pound shop) ones have been terrible in my experience. However if you spend slightly more those are usually fine.

Whilst I appreciate the obvious answer, the last one I bought is a heavy duty one which appears sturdier than the one that came from Apple. Now, barring the internal electrical connections being so fragile that 10A will burn them out, I still don't get why this should be happening

the lightning cable is more than just a simple cable with a different connector.
there are internal chips. the strudy-ness of the cable is irrelevant. it's the quality of the microchip(s) and these will be cheaply produced.

Ahh, okay. That makes sense. I didn't realise it was more complex than copper wires. Ok, next q. Does anyone know a 3rd party 2m reliable cable manufacturer that doesn't charge silly prices?

I would also like to know this. I'd like a decent 2 metre cable, and one that doesn't produce the 'not approved' message on the iPhone, for less than £25.

I bought a Belkin one that is cheaper, longer, and more sturdy than Apple's own. They come in various lengths and pretty colours too!
