BBCiplayer: Stuttering playback progs?
Hi again,
another iplayer problem has happened where all my downloaded progs in iplayer all stutter in picture and sound some way into the programmes, getting steadily worse later on. This started to occur within the last couple of days, probably coinciding with the recent Google update to Android 4.4.3 on my Nexus 7 (2013) tablet. Anyone else having this problem with Android and BBC iplayer? |

Is this on battery power alone or with the charger plugged in? I get stuttering problems with my Hudl when it is on charge.

Unplugged Gomezz.
Reported the fault on the BBC iplayer contact us page as before, so hopefully it may well be sorted soon. |

I am having this problem with my Mac Book Pro and Google Chrome, it also happens on 4oD but NOT Netflix. Must be a flash problem with the latest Chrome update.

I've been seeing some stuttering problems over the past few weeks too. This is on my PS4, though on my TV too, which has an iPlayer app.

You guys should report your problems with your devices as they do try to replicate the precise symptoms to work out the fixes with the particular developers. And you get acknowlegement of your problem from the techies, and info of upcoming fixes: Quote:
Thanks for contacting the BBC iPlayer Support Team.
We understand since updating on your Nexus device you have been having poor playback issues on downloaded programmes. We’re aware of a couple of issues affecting Android 4 KitKat users in regards to playing programmes. 1. Video remaining as a black screen but with audio continuing. This is affecting all versions of Android 4.4. If you get a frozen or black screen, you can usually fix it by pressing the back button to the programme information page, then tapping play again. 2. Playback starts to degrade after about 15 minutes of continuous normal playback of a downloaded programme. This issue is specific to Android version 4.4.3. We’re working with Google to fix these bugs. Please be sure to accept future upgrades to your BBC iPlayer app and Android firmware so any fixes can take effect. Thank you again for contacting us; we value your feedback about iPlayer. All faults are sent to senior management and the BBC iPlayer Support Team every morning and we’ve included your points in our overnight reports. These reports are among the most widely read sources of feedback in the BBC and ensure that your fault has been seen quickly and by the right people. This helps inform their decisions about the service. Kind Regards |

System update to Kitkat 4.4.4 a couple of days ago, with no changes on this stuttering problem with downloaded, and streamed programmes.
Second report raised with BBC iplayer contact us. Any other suggestions to try to resolve this problem would be gratefully received, as it seems the BBC and Google aren't taking the unuseability of iPlayer too seriously. |

Going by the above thread SkyGo customers using Nexus 7's have had these problems fixed for some time now, and have their own place to complain/report errors on their devices just like BT have.If there's a similar forum somewhere on the BBC could someone please link to it. (BBC just point to here and maybe another one or two places, though not strangely to a dedicated BBC site?) |

This is a problem with HLS video in Android 4.4.3 and above. Hopefully it will be fixed or Google will publish a suitable workaround soon...
https://code.google.com/p/android/is...etail?id=70877 It won't affect Sky Go as it doesn't use HLS as it's transport protocol, it uses Microsoft Smoothstreaming as part of their Playready implementation. (I don't think iPlayer downloads use HLS, they might be unaffected?) |

Thanks for the info Phazer.
I've no idea if iplayer uses HLS , all I know is the update to 4.4.3. almost a whole month ago has made iPlayer unusable. |

Just tried streaming the British GP, it stuttered after 17 mins. I then realised I hadn't deleted the download of this and it was playing the download file so must have been the same when I reported in post 7.
Sorry about that. Also you can remove the stuttering for a few seconds at a time if you pause the play. (I know, desperate aint it )

iPlayer update today with no change in the stuttering after 17 minutes. However I did uninstall both iplayer, and the Media Player with no difference in the fault with or without the Media Player App installed.
