Coronation Street and EastEnders set for ratings battle with ITV lining up extra Corrie on Monday 23 June

EastEnders and Coronation Street look to be on course for a rare head-to-head clash as TV bosses finalise their schedules.

ITV is lining up an extra half hour of its Weatherfield drama at 8pm on Monday 23 June, which will go up against the established edition of the BBC One soap which is usually in the same slot.

Insiders at the BBC said the move will split the soap audience, and one source said it appeared to be "unnecessarily aggressive scheduling" on the part of the commercial channel.

However, ITV has played it down saying it is simply fitting programmes around World Cup matches.

Bloody ITV! I think it's rather discourteous on fans like me who watch both soaps and like them both. I'll be watching Eastenders as I don't have digital telly

ITV wanted to try and get half an hour of EastEnders moved to Tuesday, to reduce the time available for BBC One to show England football highlights before the 9pm live match.

It's not as if they aren't both available to watch in many places at convenient times. I cant really see it being a big deal tbh.
