Always an interesting one as reliant on a lot of factors.

Whatever way I look at this, a few surprise sides crop up. If you can get two spot on, you've done very well.

I'll go for:

Chile V Ivory Coast
Ecuador V Portugal
Spain V Uruguay
Argentina V Germany

Argentina v Germany should be a cracker, although Argentina is not one of Germany's feared opponents. The teams Germany is most afraid of are Italy, Spain and Brazil.

Interesting these - assuming that people have worked out that they are possible. Some good looking ties. My Argentina V Germany relies on Portugal winning the group.

I worked it out earlier

Brazil Columbia
France Portugal
Holland Italy
Argentina Germany

and its a Portugal, Holland final at 470/1

(yes, Portugal do win the group!)

and Netherlands v Spain is a real crunch match, because the losers probably get Brazil in the last 16.

My wild shot is that Chile come runners up in that group (maybe 7 points each with Spain though) but then knock out Brazil in the Round of 16.

here is mine:

France v Germany
Brazil v Italy
Argentina v Portugal
Spain v England

Yes, i think England may squeeze out of their group at the expense of Uruguay
So, i had England v Columbia in the last 16 match
It could benefit them, to be runners up in their group

Now that IS a bold prediction. The USA are 200/1 upwards.

I've just filled in my predictor form and it turned out like this:

Brazil v (head says Colombia, misguided heart says England)
Spain v Uruguay
France v Germany
Argentina v Portugal

That looks a decent pick, it looks like I imagine a QF draw to look.

I had a go at a world cup predictor earlier and those are the quarter finals I came up with as well.

So those are clearly pretty much nailed on!

Same as me on the bottom 2. As for Colombia or England, I actually had Colombia failing to get out of their group with Japan topping it and Ivory Coast second. That set up an England (who scraped through the group) v Japan last 16 match and England won 1-0 after kicking them all over the place.

I would also go with this based on the draw.

France and Argentina both have piss easy runs to the quarters so should be there assuming they both win their easy groups and don't play each other in last 16.
I then think it will be 2 of Germany, Belgium and Portugal.
2 of Brazil, Spain, Netherlands.
Then its any 2 of Columbia, Uruguay, Italy and dare I say England. (I've gone with the South American advantage here)

Dark horses could be Chile and Ivory Coast.

I'm going Argentina to win overall as they look to have an easier route to the final than Brazil and less pressure/expectation.

Not long to go now!

Yes, France look to have an easy route to the quarters if games go their way. They could be a surprise package if they don't self-destruct again. Mangala and Varane are highly rated young defenders. Matuidi, Cabaye and the powerhouse Pogba in midfield. With Benzema up front they have a reliable striker. Can't rule them out.
I like all the South American sides, wouldn't underestimate any of them in their own backyard. This tournament might have come a bit too early for Belgium, I'm looking foward to see them play though.
It should be Brazil or Argentina with the South American advantage, but nearly every World Cup comes up with a team that surprises everybody, even if they don't go on to win it.

Brazil vs Uruguay
France vs Portugal
Chile vs England
Argentina vs Germany

My eventual winners would be Argentina, beating Brazil 2-1 in the final.

Which is good because I have Argentina in my work sweepstake. I had England lose 1-0 to Chile.

Germany usually beat Argentina in tournaments (since '86 of course). Argentina is a preferred opponent for Germany.

Brazil v England
Ecuador v Portugal
Spain v Côte d'Ivoire
Argentina v Belgium (I have a sneaky feeling that Germany won't turn up)

That would give a Brazil v Portugal and Spain v Argentina semis and the Brazil v Argentina final that we all would like to see.

I think England will make the cut, but I don't think they will top the group. Also, Spain will be lucky to come second in their group and Portugal were so terrible I think they will lose if they get to the Round of 16.
