There was a stat on a programme last night that the host nation has never lost their opening game.

Does it really matter who started the thread As long as the OP's who do these match threads turn up for the threads they set up and contribute a little

Here's to hoping for a good tournament and lots of good banter over the next few weeks

Hopefully the protestors won't cause too much grief, looking at those Sao Paulo scenes

Open ceremonies are great fun, totally baffling most of the time. The best one was euro 2008 totally off the wall with the people box things. 12 minutes of shock wonder what the heck this was suppose to be. Only thing that came close to it was the euro 2008 closing ceremony.

I have a theory that the people that design football open ceremonies has zero interest in sport or football. It is their 12 minutes to shine in a event which relates purely to the world of art and the odd circus acts.

It is like starting an Opera with two F1 cars racing on to the stage, makes no sense at all for what follows is.

For that reason, the pure 12 minutes of you life wondering what the hell is going on and praying for the football to start soon they are EPIC !!!!

I can't remember what if was for but the wierdest was Coleman or Davies commentating over a surreal arty thing where forrest nymphs started popping up.

Here we go then.....

Couple of weeks of chaos begins and the usual 'what excuses will England use this time' when they go out to a better team in the knockouts if they get that far

Didn't recognise Cannovaro. Always remember him with a shaved head.

Seriously though I'm not the forum police, if people want individual match threads that's your choice, I'll go with the majority.

I hope the Brazillians bring back samba style football in this world cup. Possibly the only style that tops total football

I'm currently listening to Three Lions

It's good to see all those videos from World Cup finals......I'd love to see England in something like that! I'm optimistic

I've heard that the opening ceremony is 25 minutes long. If so, that's a long wait until Kick Off (which I thought was at 8pm).

Pls just give to BBC who can produce a much more quality output than ITV.

David Luiz and Neymar in the hairdressers!

That cartoon reminds me of the Tooned stuff on Sky F1.
