There is a lot of pressure on Rooney to do well and he will be a target for the opposition just like Beckham in '98. I hope he does well and can keep his head together and not let other players wind him up. Anyone else worried he could get sent off during a World Cup game.

I don't personally support the current England team but I do think they would be better off without Wayne Rooney. It surprises me that his non a performances have been tolerated and excused for so long.

Non performances such as him being England's top scorer in qualification, being his team's top scorer and the fact that he is approaching the all time scoring records for both club and country?

Non-performances in major tournaments.

So its OK for him to help get the team to Brazil, but its not OK for him to play in Brazil?

Unbelievable.

Who said that? Personally I wouldn't include him in any England squad. I think they are better without him. That's my opinion which I'm entitled to.

Phil Neville was correct in his assessment of the situation,

Surely he'll only be correct if Rooney has a half decent WC?

I agree. In fact, I'd ditch all of the over-paid Premier League primadonnas and just pick players from League 2 and the Conference.

At least those lads would show passion and would run their hearts out for the shirt. Who needs skill and top-level experience?

"There is no doubt in my mind that Wayne is the first name on the teamsheet. Let's just hope that he delivers and these silly rumours and suggestions go away."

Nope he's correct now, he's not guaranteeing anything, just stating what should be the obvious, there should be no doubts over Rooney's inclusion in the team, and that there seems to be a witchhunt, like there always is with England.

Yep. We can't have anyone who has not performed in international tournaments, even if they are clearly our best players, so we have to drop the lot of them.

Most importantly they should sing the anthem with as much passion as possible, maybe they should hold x-factor like auditions.

I wonder if there are Argentinian and Portugese equivalents of Digispy where their fans are having the same discussions about Messi & Ronaldo and their previous WC records...

I don't think Messi sings the anthem, so wouldn't surprise me.

How he hasn't already been dropped is beyond me

'Messi plays for a club that I don't like and earns a lot of money. He's only ever scored one World Cup goal! We should drop him immediately and make Jonas Gutierrez our main man. He shows loads of passion.'

I've often thought why we don't take players from the Championship, a team that has a England player gets relegated from the PL so is no longer picked for the national squad. Same if a team gets promoted, one season their not in contention, next they are!!

I get that its hard to judge a player who may not be playing against the top players, but I'd rather have a team who actually want to be there and will try their hardest, than a team of PL superstars, who will get their nice fat paychecks wether they try or not. Greece proved it's not the players it's the whole team.

So Rooney is as good as Messi in major tournaments, that is good to hear, I presume you are going to have a moan at Messi as well?

Greece just got lucky, it shouldn't be used as a blueprint of how to win future tournaments. The best players should go which means 99% of the time they will be PL players.

And there's actually one!

Greece didn't select any players from it's lower leagues as far as I know.

Do you honestly think that any of the current England squad don't want to be there?

Incredible.

I don't understand the logic that if a player is paid a lot of money then they're just happy to not try, and to lose - as long as they get their 'nice fat paychecks'. These players have a desire and drive to win things, it is why they have reached the level where they are playing for these top clubs in the first place.

You mean the nice fat paychecks they donate to charity? England players haven't been keeping their match fees for years.
