No Man's Sky
Thought there may have been a thread about this already, but I can't find one.
This game looks unbelievably good! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-27807167 |

I don't get this game at all. What's the objective?

![]() I think it looks amazing, a really interesting concept but I do hope there's a good objective to the game. That'll be the difference between a great concept and a great game. |

http://popwatch.ew.com/2014/06/12/no-mans-sky-e3-hello/ I like the idea that even the developers don't know what you might discover in this seemingly limitless universe and the way your actions have consequences beyond that of your own game. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this one. Sci-Fi games aren't usually my thing, but my curiosity has been piqued. |

Looks really cool. Not sure if the reality is going to match the promise though. Still, you never know... |

As a concept it is incredible and easily the most interesting title that anyone showed at E3.
But the reality is often very far away from the concept. The very first The Last of Us gameplay demo was a world away in terms of AI from what was eventually delivered. My fear is that it will simply be a series of different worlds with minor cosmetic changes EG. 'Monster A + Landscape F + Weather Pattern R + Sky Colour U'...you get the idea. Ultimately, of course, as it is being built by an algorithim, that is what will be happening, no matter what, but the important thing is for them to create the illusion that it isn't. |

If there was an NMS video with some excerpts from Matthew McConaughey's monologue in the Interstellar teaser trailer. Wow. I'd be having a very long bathroom break.
I feel a great need to buy this game now. It's not even up for pre-order but I don't care. |

If it is truely original animals that bare no resemblance to what the devs have ever seen then i will happy be proved wrong. I'll probably still end up getting this though. The randomness reminds me a lot of Spore. |

So looking forward to this, I guess there wasn't a console thread before as it wasn't actually confirmed which platforms it was on until E3.

I like the idea of the game, but this bit they say is just a lie. Its not like there are procedurally generated animals with behaviour. Its just random planets with random selection of animals on them.

The originality for me is well worth the purchase. I'm definitely getting it!

yet scenarios naturally occur during testing that invite the three coders to attempt to reverse engineer them – to dig into the code and to create systems “that result in those scenarios happening in an emergent way”. Murray explains how he accidentally dropped a fish onto the shore of one planet and watched as birds began to flock around it. Unfortunately, the birds happened to pass over a large group of carnivorous plants, and a feathery bloodbath promptly ensued. As much as Hello Games is training its game to behave in certain ways, No Man’s Sky’s procedural universe also teaches its coders something new every day.
Is that what you mean?

Started watching videos on this. They've allowed the ability if you discover things you get to name them. Going to be some choice names then I guess.
I can't decide if this is going to be good or not. On one hand you could probably lock away hours escaping from reality and just exploring but on the other, will that be enough. Will it become too lonely for some of us who like other player interaction ? I think price will determine the success of this game. Ie I don't think it really aimed at me, so at 50 quid is more or less dead to me. At opposite end 20 quid. You know it would be worth owning for that odd escape and sense of scale. It's weird how they talk about how its all procedural and so theres nothing on the disc. So, is massive, yet so small. Very interesting. |

I'm always interested in games that try and be a bit different and push our expectations of what a game can be. Can't tell if I'd find this game fun or not though.
On IGN they're saying that while the universe isn't infinite, it would still take 5 billion years to see every planet which is pretty cool. A nice concept that you can see something in a game that no one else will. |

Even though I don't really understand this game, I like the look of Wild better. Similar premise but I don't really understand what that's about either!

I'm thinking this is going to be an exploration sim, with lots to see, but nothing to do. That isn't going to cut it for me.

In a lot of ways this reminds me of Elite. But the core of Elite which kept you playing was its trading system and No Mans Sky will need a hook like that to keep people interested. I enjoy exploration in games and I like hunting around a free-roaming world looking for collectables and other interesting stuff put in by the developers so the exploration aspect of NMS is interesting for me. But that alone will not hold my interest for a long time.
Just the fact the developer is trying something different has me interested as well, although I do worry this game is getting too much hype since E3 and that it may be difficult for it to live up to that now. |

On the one hand it sounds and looks really great, but I also like my games to have an 'end game', and when stuff like 'it would take 5b years to visit every planet' is boasted it dents my anticipation alittle.

I don't think these games will be all exploration with nothing to do. They are made by some very creative teams and I don't think they'll overlook something as fundamental as putting things to do in the game. |

Basically as long as it's fun I don't care how many planets there are etc. Just want to enjoy it but not sure I would going off what I've seen.

I do like the look of this. Hope it's not another Watchdogs and that graphically the finished product turns out just like what we've seen. I do have reservations about what the gameplay will be like. But it's definitely on my watch list.
