As I suspected.. the multiplayer or no multiplayer debate is kicking off.

Here is what was said of it prior to launch:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AE0nuW-mQ8A

And here is what's triggered the debate:

https://www.vg247.com/2016/08/10/no-...-other-at-all/

I expected the developers to have clarified today what the situation is but I'm not sure they have. Fans of the game are saying "Wait it's just not in the game yet..."

Here is Sean talking, as ever, in vague visions and not giving any form of answer:

https://i.redd.it/ewbz3uhy8iex.png

I hope for their sake the game DOES have it and they're just trying really really hard to not reveal how it's accessed. But my hunch is the same as it was a few weeks ago.. it's not possible.. and they've not stated that because who wants a single player shared universe experience?
Here he is clearly saying it's not a multi-player game https://twitter.com/NoMansSky/status/762688708764135425

I love the art style, harks back to classic Sci-fi. Each to their own I guess.
Very early days for me. Still on my first planet fixing my ship. Seems promising though.

Yeah same, the art style is great and I think that's what they were aiming for. I've played for a few hours now and loving it so far, I find it more relaxing than anything. But I do wonder how long before it starts to feel a bit samey. Hopefully it won't.

Oh so those video clips where he said it's possible to run into other players were misleading?

ive spent about 6 hours on it so far. Only gotten to the second planet but wish I'd not left the first. I love finding new words and learning about new tech but so far I haven't really spent much time upgrading my kit.

The only issue with it is the pop ups on ps4. No doubt these will be less intrusive on PC but give how intrusive these are on PS4 I would think there's not a hope in hell of making it work for Sony VR. On non VR thought, they certainly don't distract too much when there's so much else to do.

I can't wait until I actually start traveling between solar systems

Yeah I'm not denying he didn't say it and it isn't misleading, just saying what he tweeted. It's a weird one tbh, but not something I'm bothered about but can see why some might feel lied too and disappointed. Perhaps it will be fixed in an update.

Just spent the last 2 hours or so in game... I have repaired the components required for my ship but now I have to get back to my ship - according to the ship-tracker icon it's 15 minutes walk away. Even though I suspect I could fly to another planet now, I feel like I've got hours and hours of exploration left on this planet (there's even a massive underground cave section I discovered which I haven't explored that much yet).

My initial impressions are very positive. As boring as it sounds, once you start wandering around it just sucks you right in, you've just got to see what's over that hill or at that waypoint your Scanner has just picked up.

Looking forward to playing again tomorrow.

I found a planet where most of the aliens looked like pineapples with dozens of eyes. No sneaking up on them. I didn't find any violent ones though, so that's something. The plants were the carnivores on the planet. Lots of nasty tentacle and vine plants that seemed to be in every cave and bit of water. No wonder the poor pineapples needed so many eyes.

I'm getting the PC version on Friday as well, so looking forward to comparing the two versions.

Ok so I've actually played it, which is more than some who are offering opinions. The first hour went in seconds and i didn't even leave the first planet! It is massive, i got killed by plants, fed animals, made a home cave, as i'd gone far too far away from my ship. I've discovered new languages and build comms devices to communicate with other planets. How this game is gonna get boring is beyond me!!!
You'll soon realise when you've explored more than one planet only to discover none of them have anything unique to offer beyond differently coloured plants and random animals.

I just kept wandering and telling myself just one more ? to explore

I think the lack of a definite storyline & goal may hurt the game in the long run. You do need bags of patience to succeed in it.
Personally, the most frustrating thing for me is coming up to a crate or a door in an outpost or space station only to find I need one of those frigging AtlasPasses to open it!

I think the area you are in affects what type of life you get, because all 4 planets in my starter system are very similar to each other with similar looking life forms.

But when you see some of the streams where other people are at, it's totally different.

So yes it could make people think it's all very similar, but I get the feeling that's the point and you need to get out a bit more. It's a big big universe to explore.

Hehe, I suppose it's all relative. You're not well travelled until you've visited at least 4 quintillion planets.

I ordered this from Amazon today, so will get it tomorrow. I like the gameplay footage. It has the potential to be a good chill out game. Scratches my Sci-fi itch too.
It is a very pretty game with a lot to do it. A few hours have gone by and hardly anything has happened. It is also very noisy and chatty.

So I started this. Fixed up the ship and found a couple of words. Is there anything else to find? I can see myself getting bored of words and iron to find and not much else. As pretty as it all is I can't sink precious time just into "pretty".

So the latest on multiplayer is people are discovering the "multi-player" icon on the box was covered up with a sticker.

Yeah just read that on another site, Sony have issued a statement saying: "Incorrect descriptors were incorporated into the original No Mans Sky LE packaging. This was a production issue and was rectified using stickers." The interesting thing is it was a PEGI 12 under the sticker, presumably because of the non existent multiplayer, and it's now a PEGI 7.

Multiplayer has nothing to do with the rating. I'm pretty sure LBP3 is PEGI 7 and that has multiplayer. The rating is for content.

It's possible that the game was submitted twice for certification. Maybe Hello Games (publisher) weren't happy with the 12 and got it resubmitted which resulted in the new 7. This would open the game up to a wider audience. It happens in the movie industry.

Played about 10 hours so far and I haven't even travelled to a different solar system, just exploring all the planets in the system I'm in now. I'm just finding this game relaxing and a good chill out game to play, I lose so many hours in this without realising. It's like the game I've always wanted.

One annoyance though is the first planet and solar system I named have reverted back to it's default name and I can't change it back dunno if that's a glitch or not.

I think I may have to restart.
Annoying as I've found nearly 150 words, found several slot upgrades for my suit, so many tech upgrades and a few new multitools and acquired 1.5m units of spare cash.

I swapped ships and forgot where I left it. It's at one of those stations with 7 landing pads on one of 3 planets in my starting system.
Didn't bother too much about it at the time as u thought I'd just find some antimatter somewhere to build some warp cells. But not a fkin sausage. Spent the last few hours of game time dedicated to hitting up every trade spot I could find. Antimatter and warp cells just don't go on the market.

See if this helps (bit about lost ships)
