I had a quick go yesterday and repaired one of the ships components, but I must admit it's not grabbing me so far. It all seems a bit Minecraft with this emphasis on gathering resources and building stuff.

I'll give it a proper run through over the weekend, but currently I still prefer Elite's universe.

Any walkthroughs available yet??

I'm not certain a walkthrough guide is possible with this game because of it being procedurally generated in the way it is.

I think I may have to restart.
Annoying as I've found nearly 150 words, found several slot upgrades for my suit, so many tech upgrades and a few new multitools and acquired 1.5m units of spare cash.

I swapped ships and forgot where I left it. It's at one of those stations with 7 landing pads on one of 3 planets in my starting system.
Didn't bother too much about it at the time as u thought I'd just find some antimatter somewhere to build some warp cells. But not a fkin sausage. Spent the last few hours of game time dedicated to hitting up every trade spot I could find. Antimatter and warp cells just don't go on the market.
Well it's got to be on the same planet as you! There should be a marker - if it's absolutely miles away, then if you find one of those stations nearby you can "summon" it at one of the pads. Eventually you get the blueprints for the antimatter so you can make your own,

I lost my original ship on day 1 (I got the game last Saturday, 3 days early), I think when I'd found a crashed ship I'd inadvertently swapped it with mine so owned the crashed one instead, but I didn't have the resources to fix it and couldn't find them anywhere and spent hours wandering around trying to find my original ship and then trying to buy the resources at trade points. (it took me a few hours before I even realised there was a sprint button ) Didn't matter in the end as I started a new game anyway when the update came out.

I had a quick look at it last night, started exploring the planet. Found at first a lack of guidance and instruction as to exactly what you were meant to be doing. Soon worked out how to identify the various plants, rocks etc and plunder them for resources.

Eventually the menu's and pop-ups explained it a bit more.

But the main issue was my life support failing - could not figure out how to replenish that. I am sure I missed a resource/collectable for that, but as I was only having a quick browse, I just explored for while until my suit gave up.

I will give it more of a run through over the weekend.

First impressions are ok, I like the exploring and looking for resources angle, that kind of strategy works for me. And I know I have barely even started the game, so there should be much more to get into.

Been playing NMS for about 6 hours, over the last few days, and am absolutely loving it..

On the other hand l can see why people may think it is a bit samey and boring.

For me l love the "crafting" aspect and find it quite addictive exploring and collecting resources to build the next item.

I have encountered a few issues on the way. The game crashed the first time l went to the Galactic Map.
Also had another issue where l was on a planet had gone into the exosuit/starship resources screen when l came back out l wasnt able to move, but could open resources screen again.

I think l am going to waste many more hours on this before l get bored.

At some trading posts or buildings you find on planet, there is sometimes a terminal you can use which will autopilot your ship to where you are.

That's what I said - although you put it more eloquently!

This is what happened. As below.
And I didn't figure out the sprint for a couple of hours either. Don't expect sprint to be programmed to R3.

Thanks but not what I meant.
I traded up from the bog standard starter ship to the one that looks like a mash up of a Mk2 Viper, X-Wing & Jedi Fighter. I then left the original at a trade port and carried on my merry way and off to one of the other planets. Subsequently forgetting where I left it.
My original ship had a fueled FTL so I couldn't leave the system to find the antimatter blueprint. (whilst investigating solutions on the net, it seems you need to leave your starting system to acquire this blueprint)

Anyway, it's all by-the-by. After hours of checking trade stations one of them finally had antimatter in stock and I bought all 3 of those bitches. So I'm good to go.

PC settings - https://s10.postimg.org/nydwsprjt/no...s_settings.jpg

Glad the fov goes up to at least 100. Looks like it has an uncapped framerate

3 more hours everyone!

From reading the discussion board on Steam regarding the PC release, It seems most people can't get past the title screen without it crashing and those that do suffer appalling frame-rate issues. Reviews so far on Steam are currently at about 70% negative. Not looking good...

I've requested a refund. It runs like a lame dog. Feels like very early alpha.
The fov slider goes up to 100 but feels like 60, changed it to 130 in an ini file which makes it look like 100 but that caused flickering :S

No mouse acceleration but it feels like there's some sort of smoothing on there, making small adjustments for precise aiming feels really muddy.

Has that usual console port thing where the vertical aiming sensitivity is about half the speed of the horizontal with no way to change it.

Gah, was really looking forward to it an' all
Could be the best game in the world but I'm not putting up with any of that. I'll have my 40 quid back.

Back to starbound for me.

I don't know what it's like on ps4, but stay away from the pc version, whatever you do!

Sorry to hear that. Apart from texture pop ups when flying on planets it runs pretty good on the PS4.

I did consider just plugging a pad in, but with all the inventory management, it'd drive me barmy so I just cut my losses.

Was disappointed overall with the PC launch. Have tried to get it running ok for over an hour now, and still runs terrible. Decided to give in and get a refund in. Will probably buy it again when they fix it all and it's stable, and when the price is lower. Wasn't impressed with what gameplay I did manage to get in. Sad because I was really looking forward to this game.

I very nearly bought it for the pre-order bonus but glad I didn't now. Despite the game originally being developed on the PC first, somebody has allegedly found some PS4 code in the PC game so it looks like it's just a bad PC port. I hope they resolve all the issues but if not then I'll have to give this one a miss.

Yeah, I've got both versions and the PS4 is the more stable one at the moment.

I've not had too many problems with the PC version though, but that's probably more due to luck than anything else. It crashed out on first start, but ran fine afterwards, with the odd jitter here and there. My system is specced for VR though, so it's pretty high performance. That I'm seeing these problems suggests the game really isn't optimised for PCs yet.

It looks like PS4 develop took priority over PC, which is understandable given Sony's backing of the game. If people have the choice of either, and don't want to wait, then the PS4 version is probably the one to go for.

I think I'm going to park the PC version and go back to the PS4 one.

Encountered my first pirate fight but it was pretty easy as they didn't seem to attack me... but jammed my engines so had to shoot them down.

Crafting fuel for the warp drive is a bit of a pain but I love jumping to a new system and exploring it. I'm on a beautiful colourful planet at the moment. Learned about 50 Alien words so far.

Those who have this, would you say it's worth the £45-50 price tag? Last full-price game I bought was UC4 which was excellent, but can honestly say I haven't got another game in my PS4 collection that I would have been happy to have paid full price for.

Yeah. I absolutely *love* Elite: Dangerous, but NMS really doesn't look like my kind of thing.

These Tweets from Ars Technica's Lee Hutchinson do a good job of explaining how they are totally different kinds of game:

Have finally got home from my holiday and played a bit of this. I was very, very much looking forward to just having a bit of a potter round the universe.

But my god, what a load of boring old shite.

For those of you who don't have the game, here's the general gist:
Land on planet, stock up on supplies to keep fixing your ship and exo-suit, maybe visit a couple of outposts and name some things on the planet.... and then repeat ad infinum.

And that wouldn't be an issue at all, if the game actually gave you a reason to care about anything. Literally nothing in this game feels important, or has any sort of emotional impact at all, it's all just "Okay guess I'm doing this now then... great..."

Games like Minecraft get away with this by having the player essentially do whatever they want, but this is a nearly entirely passive experience. Sure you can interact with some NPCs, do some bog standard shooting of some sentinels, and maybe even occasionally battle space pirates, but that's essentially 1% of your time in this game, and the other 99% of your time is drenched in mind-numbing tedium, once the initial "Wow" factor of the game's scope has worn off (which unfortunately, happens very, very quickly)

It really is a shame, I wanted to like this so bad and I wasn't even going into it with ludicrous expectations, I just wanted a game where I could travel space and explore planets, and whilst I essentially got that, I feel gutted that there's such a big disconnect between the game and the player.

For those on the fence about buying it at full price: I really wouldn't recommend slapping down £50 on this, wait until a significant price drop or a significant update that adds more gameplay mechanics.

There was talk about adding freighters, expanding on the trading system and letting you create bases. I'm not sure what's going to happen there, but the chances are it'll end up being expensive, so exploring, expanding your exosuit multitool and ship sizes could be worthwhile.

I decided to give the PC version another go. With some tips from the Steam discussion group, I've managed to bump up the FPS to something decent - over 140 FPS a lot of the time, with the odd freeze or glitch. I was playing all afternoon, and only had one crash. Of course, my experience is no guarantee others will have that much luck on their systems.

I actually enjoy pottering about exploring. I found a planet with swarms of giant flying centipedes on it earlier. I'm glad there weren't any violent varieties!

Been playing a while now, still exploring the first planet, but having trouble figuring out what to do and what to look for.

I know how to get the various minerals, upgrade health, protection, laser gun etc, but I am constantly being told my inventory is full when I try to harvest something.

I have transferred everything to the ship I can, but without dumping stuff I am not sure what else to do.

I also cannot find the carite sheets mineral to fix my ship, I am not sure how you even identify it and what it looks like. I have found one of 4, but not even sure how I got that.
