Upgraded my ship and suit to max and then realised there was no point to playing it any more. Didn't take me all that long either. Haven't played it since. I'm waiting for updates that add content to the game but I'm not hopeful.

Currently playing Star Trek online which as a free to play game on the PSN store, is IMO much better than NMS despite STO being somewhat buggy at times!

I would say yes.

Its crazy how fast this game fell from grace, a grand lesson in how NOT to 'talk up' your game.

I paid £30 and thought it was worth that. £15 is a steal. Where is that deal?

Probably everywhere shortly, it has now broken the record for lowest rated game on steam apparently.

Amazon marketplace, the price was for a used copy. I decided against it in the end, I'm against dodgy business practices and that f*ckwit Sean Murray is one dodgy f*cker...

Wow, that goes to show how bitter a lot of people can be if they perceive something was advertised falsely. It certainly wasn't worth full price and it was badly marketed, but worst game ever? Give me a break.

No Man's Sky is far from perfect but I'm still getting enjoyment out of it. I think one thing it has going against it is that it must be absolute hell for the completionists - it really is a "dive in / dive out" sort of game for me. You kind of have to set your own little mini tasks on each planet. Definitely one for the imagination.

Well if you are buying it 2nd hand, he wont be getting any money off you so all is well in the world.

I met him a couple of times in the past. He actually came across as a nice enough chap...

My remarks was rather tongue in cheek to be honest. Though I do think the marketing was perhaps a little suspect.

I don't think Sean Murray is a bad guy, the Antichrist or evil incarnate.

I think he's just an indie developer who hit the big time and had no clue how to deal with it. He had zero experience in developing, let alone marketing, a major release. The game was set in an infinite universe of calculations and so every time he was asked, "Will the game include this?" his automatic answer was YES because he feared negative press so much. I have no doubt that Murray tried to include everything that he could, but for various reasons just couldn't do it.

So yes, I have sympathy for him. Sony should have stepped in at some point or offered some sort of advice that the path he was taking was a very dangerous one.

In videogaming terms, Murray and his team became celebrities overnight. And he just didn't know the right way to deal with that.

Been having my first proper play of this over a few days now i've got a graphics card that can handle it. I can certainly see how some have referred to it as "Grinding: The Simulator" for starters

At the moment I don't mind it I suppose. I can see how you can easily lose a few hours if you get engrossed in buying and selling and trying to upgrade your various bits, but I can also see how that can become rather boring as well.

I'm currently stuck on rather a barren planet with no fuel in my launch thrusters so that's going to be super fun trying to find the one or two bits of plutonium that are hiding right at the back of the various caves i've seen ...

You can only take off 4 times before you need to refuel with plutonium. It's a pain in the arse. I was hoping they'd reduce the amount needed in an update but no luck so far. There are noises coming out of Sony that hint at things on the horizon for the game, but we'll have to wait and see.

I wonder if there is enough space in the recently vacated space in New Mexico?

Yeah i've read in a few places that base building is also being considered as well which could be interesting, although i suppose they'd also need to introduce an element of threat that would at least give you an on-going reason to maintain and upgrade your base.

Actually managed to build a hyper drive on my game which i was reasonably chuffed about, although i might only keep going until i can get a better ship i think because i want to properly dive in to Just Cause 3

I dont know how base building would work, would it be the same structure as all the other locations you go into in the game with the same stupid alien sitting there with a lightshade on his head?

Flowery or plain ?

Given that the idea for the game is aimed at constant exploration and moving on from system to system, a "base building" element which requires staying put on one planet would seem to rather be at odds with the engine.

Better would be some kind of starship building idea, where you can have an orbiter and a landing craft. Your landing craft is still the one you know at present but you can dock into an interstellar base that you build and improve. That would interest me more.

Would obviously give you a third inventory too. Personal, Landing Craft, Orbiter.

I like that idea a lot - the "base" being an actual starship.

Perhaps even you could allow other ships to dock and trade with your starship's shop, as a source of income. Set your own prices for resources - you'd do the same as the game does, buy low & sell high to make profit, perhaps regularly checking your shop's inventory might show up an interesting item or two that someone's sold to you.

I guess you could potentially then have more than one smaller ship (the lander-type craft we have already) but I don't suppose there's a whole lot of point to that? Unless you had one built for speed, one for exploration, one for battling mid-space etc... actually that would be kind of nice too.

What they need is creation. Build your own spaceship and have lots of rooms, bedrooms, kitchen area, medical area, big storage lockers for your weapons. Being able to land on planets and build a temporary base while your ship is safe or maybe leave your ship in space and take a smaller one to each planet. The ability to meet other players and trade with them on the actual planets and steal their stuff etc. Being able to treat it more like real life if this could happen in real life. If this was your life how would you live it? That's probably what it would be like.

My guess is the game is dead now. They made their millions, job done. It's very unlikely we will see any DLC for this game or even another game from "Hello Games". This game has made them millions but destroyed their reputation. After such negative press about this game, nobody will touch it now unless it's made available at the 'Indie' price that it should have launched at.

edit; It has overtones of GTA V. Rockstar made millions from GTAV Online via shark cards so ditched the single player DLC they promised. Hello Games made millions from the Hype of NMS, any DLC would be worth pennies in comparison to money made from their initial sales of the game.
