Yay. Then we can spend the rest of lives being told by the Internet that we are shit at our job and that the project we dedicated the last 3 years of our lives to is worthless because someone broke a street date, or made a day one patch. Sounds fun.

The early impressions from Metro for this game seem very positive.

I honestly can't remember the last time I pre-ordered a game (or paid full price for one) - I think it must have been before the PS4 came out. Anyway, I had despatch confirmation from Amazon last night, my copy of No Man's Sky is now on it's way to me (maybe even today? who knows).
I don't know why but there's just something about this game that really intrigues me. It's weird, the Survival genre is generally not one I enjoy but I'm still really looking forward to playing it. |

30fps on PS4 is pretty terrible.
I hope the FOV slider goes upto 120, I love me some 120 goodness. |

Watched a bit of Jim Sterling's and VideoGamer's videos on this game.
It looks okay, although it did worry me a bit when Jim Sterling essentially said "If you go into it expecting a crafting survival game, then you'll like it. But if you go into it expecting this epic space exploration game, then you may come away disappointed." Also notable was the fact that Jim said, while the game looks "busy" what with it's multiple species of animals and random ships in space, he said it's all very static and it gives the illusion of a busy universe when, if you actually look at it, there's very limited interaction and as such the player can ultimately feel disconnected from the rest of the game. And finally, both VideoGamer and Jim Sterling both stated that naming the various planets, systems and species quickly loses it's novelty factor that makes it fun. Obviously, a shame, but I've had my copy delivered today (I'm on holiday until Saturday so can't play it yet) and I'm still cautiously optimistic I'll have a fun time. If nothing else, it's at least a very interesting game. |

Eurogamer are doing an all day live mega-stream right now. I've watched some of it and as I thought it's not for me, I'm sure some people will love it though.

If by "pretty terrible" you mean "perfectly acceptable" then sure.

Bit concerned with my order. I was a bit late pre ordering because I wasn't sure if I had enough money but I did and ordered it last Sunday. Checked the status and it says 'Pending User' not sure what that means? also the money didn't come out, I used paypal and can't see any transactions.

Bugger. Pending User means there was an error and my order wasn't placed, worst thing is the price has gone up so not comfortable buying it now until I see somewhere selling it for £40.

Feel free to scroll past all of this rollocks, I typed a lot more than I thought I was going to and ended up boring myself by the end of it ![]() On PC, I'll always drop graphical frills if a game isn't pushing over 100fps. That's on mouse and keyboard though. A mouse is a very direct, instant and precise input device and to get the best out of it, you need constant and consistant visual feedback. The lower the input lag, the quicker the display response, the better. When you snap your mouse across the mouse mat, you expect to instantly be facing in the opposite direction, if that doesn't happen, you don't feel totally in control. It's a whole different story when I'm playing with a pad on pc or console. When aiming with an analogue stick, you push, wait until you've gotten to where you want to be and then stop, it's a bit telegraphed. Here's Carmack explaining it better than I ever could www.youtube.com/watch?v=wt-iVFxgFWk&t=87m18s Of course a higher framerate and lower input lag help with a pad too, infinity ward (before all the talented people left) commisioned Ben heck to make a custom 360 controller to measure input lag in their game so they could keep it as low as possible and they were hell bent on keeping their game running at 60fps at all cost. You compare this to the sludgy 30fps battlefield games and it's obvious even to casual gamers which one feels better. Which one feels like you're more in control. You add in to that fact that most console gamers aren't using purpose built, low-latency, low input lag gaming monitors and are often using TVs with picture processing on top of an already high input lag and you've got a bit of a sludge-fest. using a control pad is much more forgiving of these things though. Consoles and pc are very different gaming platforms, what's right for one isn't right for the other. FOV being a perfect case in point. The industry standard of 60 degrees horizontal for console is correct because you're sat over the other side of the room from your TV. When a console game gets ported to pc and you're sat right in front of your monitor, it feels as if you're reading a book with it pressed up against your nose unless you widen the fov to account for this. The default fov for overwatch, for example, is 103. 30fps is, as fastest fingers says, "perfectly acceptable", of course we'd all prefer the ps4 version to be running at 60fps and to have a slightly higher fov but hardware limitations dictate that this isn't possible for this game. This is what it looks like at 60fps for those interested - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-uMFHoF8VA Go into the quality settings (the cog at the bottom right of the video) and choose 720p60 or 1080p60. TL;DR 30fps is perfectly acceptable for console gaming. 60fps vsynced is what every developer should be aiming for, in my opinion, even if it makes a huge impact on graphical fidelity. 30fps on mouse and keyboard? Get out of here! 60fps vsynced on mouse and keyboard? Get out of here! 60fps no vsync m/kb? Acceptable. 100fps+ no vsync m/kb, thumbs up. This is just my opinion of course, we're all different, and if you got this far, you deserve a medal Sorry for going off on a tangent, back to no man's sky!

I ordered this from Amazon today, so will get it tomorrow. I like the gameplay footage. It has the potential to be a good chill out game. Scratches my Sci-fi itch too.

Still can't make my mind up on it. Might wait a couple of weeks for more impressions then pick it up at a more reasonable price.

Digital foundry have done a performance test on the PS4 version, if you're interested.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJGT2jp2N1A If you can't be bothered, the long and short of it is a solid 30fps vsynced when on foot, though with no motion blur to disguise the panning judder. Framerate can dip as low as 14fps when flying fast close to the ground on newly discovered planets that are still being generated. Most of the time though, a solid 30fps. |

Decided to by the digital version for £43 after being let down by simply games. Prefer to buy hard copies just in case the game isn't for me, but I've been anticipating this since I heard about it 3 years ago, so couldn't wait any longer.
At least it'll will be downloaded and ready to play by the time I get home from work. Just can't wait to start exploring. |

Game looks a little rigged to me in certain respects.. in favour of the player. There is an abundance of planets and it seems as if whenever a streamer leaves one.. there is another right there in view. Which is a bit odd considering planets are huge and in theory you could fly up at any angle from any point. One streamer is sat looking at seven planets all seem to be within short distance. When they land they're always near a structure and some decent resource points.

Must be a lonely life for that one dude on the whole planet. I think this game was made for VR, but charging the same as gta5 you would expect constant new thing to do rather than land look at green grass/any colour fly away and nothing changes but the colour. They day 1 patch looks promising plus more to come but until its not different planet different day it still looks like a ps plus game.
![]() There's looking for resources to upgrade your equipment and spaceship, there's trading, space/ground battles, naming creatures and planets, searching for the center of the universe, unique paths you can follow, learn languages so you can trade better, surviving the hostile environments etc. It's like a space simulator, you make up your own story. But I understand this game won't for everyone though. |
