"Service Connection" fee
Summer Deep

I recently signed up to BT Infinity, and have been reasonably pleased with the service so far. I was astonished to find I'd been charged a £50 activation fee, however. This seems ridiculously high, just for someone pressing a switch or two!

Bit more involved than pressing a switch. Someone from Openreach has to come out to the cabinet serving your property and rewire your line into the new fibre cabinet and test everything.

Presumably you had a "self install" jobbie where they just bung you the router/modem and a couple of filters and tell you to get on with it? Otherwise you would also have had a visit from an Openreach guy to replace the face plate on your master phone socket.

The current BT Infinity 1 activation fee is shown as £30 (not hidden away anywhere)
e.g. http://www.productsandservices.bt.co.../?infinity=yes

They don't appear to charge anything for Infinity 2 installation/activation even though it requires a visit from Openreach

Yes, I had a feeling it should be £30 as well! Definitely not had any home visit from a BT engineer.

These b****** really need watching!
