Being honest I really dislike flags up. I know I am prejudging people but as soon as I see the St. George cross on cars, houses etc I immediately think negatively towards those people.

IMO it displays all that can be wrong in this country. Thr flag is often used by the far right, little englanders. I see it as borderline offensive

To me it's is flown by those too often who are racist .

The connotations of the st George's cross divide more than they unite

if that's an attempt to troll, it's rather good. If not, it's sad beyond words. Offended by a country's flag!

Not the flag that is offensive per say, it is often the people associated with it or who like to wrap themselves in it

the equivalent of finding football offensive because of the behaviour of some hooligans.

A few Chavs around me have flags on their houses and cars even. Such prols - yuk.

And we lost last night, apparently. Can't even win a football match. It's pathetic.

A flag ! Anyone putting up a flag around here would be ridiculed. Christmas lights can sometimes be amusingly ironic..but not a flag, just too chavish.

Nothing wrong with putting a flag up for the World Cup but houses covered in them look horrible.

Could someone please explain to me what is meant by the word "chav"? Obviously, it's a disparaging term, but why?

Is it that the working class, or dare I say, poor people, are seen as cretins and if so, precisely why?

Do explain.

Another thing: if these "chavs" are the ones primarily flying the flag, why? Why do you suspect they do this, and why don't you? Why is it seen as embarrassing to do so?

I suspect you are making the very generalizations here that would appall you were they said about people from a distinct nation.

See any similarities between classism and racism here?

Bit late but no, it looks very tacky having your flag out just for the football.

There is one road in Bristol, where the whole road, has England flags on houses, in the street, across the roads everything
