Indeed, and I fully admit I put myself firmly in that category as it really looked like they were going to get slaughtered after they went 2-0 down in the opening quarter-hour.
Very odd, though, how Chile just drifted off after that and barely created anything; seemingly they thought they would just score at will and allowed Australia back into it with Cahill's goal, and for a period at the beginning of that second half the Aussies were the better side and created the better chances.
The Chilean defence looks lightweight to say the least and the Spanish may well put them to the sword if they do produce a reaction to tonight's thrashing and go out all guns blazing.
Certainly on the basis of what we've seen tonight, Group B could be the most volatile of all the first round groups.
Worth also reflecting on the fact that we've seen two fantastic matches tonight with goals a plenty, and I have to say I struggle to remember a World Cup starting in quite as pulsating a fashion as this one.
