Tim Cahills goal was one of the best World Cup goals ever! Not just this tournament.

Robben's goal for me was the best of the tournament so far. He did a maradona of 1986, although not with the same class but brilliant. Van Persie's header comes 2nd for me, and messi 3rd.

A timely bump after the beauty from James Rodriguez tonight for Colombia against Uruguay.
It's certainly taken over as my goal of the tournament. |

Didn't think Cahill's effort would be beaten but that was stunning by Rodriguez! It sat up for him nicely whereas Cahill had to wait for tje ball to drop but the distance he was from goal makes it better imo.

Cahill's volley is still number one in my opinion.
To keep his eyes on the ball the whole time it was hanging in the air and then strike it so sweetly was just brilliant. Rodriguez close behind though. |

Dario Rodriguez in 2002 and Maxi Rodriguez in 2006 were both better than James Rodriguez in 2014 IMO.

Hopefully it'll be something like this:
1) Yet to come 2) yet to come 3) Yet to come 4, 5, 6, 7 Ditto 8) Tim Cahill 9) Hames Rodriguez 10) RVP |

For me it's Rodriguez so far. Utter class, a joy to behold. The guy even took his eye off the ball to have a quick glance behind him as it was coming towards him. To then be able to do what he did in that split second was amazing.
But like someone else has said, hopefully there'll be some even better ones to come! |

Rodriguez. It's the type of skilful goal we all want to see.

Rodriguez by far. Technique, skill, awareness with the added effect of hitting the underside of the crossbar to boot. Even the missus was impressed and she hates football!

you have to be a good player, very good perhaps, to score Cahill's goal, but you have to be bloody special to score Rodriguez's. from the second the ball came across from Cahill's team-mate, it was obvious there was a goal on, it was just about whether or not he was good enough to pull it off, and he clearly was. but at the split-second that ball is coming to Rodriguez, I'm not sure most players would've seen that as an opportunity, and definitely only very few would've been good enough to take that look around before controlling and volleying the ball in. it's a goal from the very top drawer IMO, and I think you'd find A LOT more players at this World Cup able to score Cahill's goal than Rodriguez's.

Rodriguez vs Uruguay just edges it over Cahill for me; Cahill's had one wondrous element of technique in the volley, whereas Rodriguez had the control on the chest, followed by the volley (where he was initially facing away from goal too). Both were outstanding strikes though.
Honourable mention has to be made to Van Persie's header too, the ball from Blind was a peach, and the leaping salmon header the perfect finish to it. |

They had a compilation at the end of the ITV broadcast.
I'm in two minds between Cahill and Rodriguez. Rodriguez had the chest down, the turn and the shot. Cahill had the run and the look and position to volley the cross. Hard decision for me which was better. |

Rodriguez's volley. I liked Fernandinho's goal against Cameroon too. It was a team goal, similar to Wilshere's vs Norwich in the Premier League last season but not quite as good.
