How to get over...?

I very recently lost a two year old guinea pig in a devastating way. He was killed after a badger broke into his cage and I heard every single noise; the growls the high pitched squeaks of distress. At the time I had no idea what was going on and I presumed that I was imagining the noises (it was about two in the morning) and when I eventually built up the courage to go and investigate it was too late. I found the badger stuck in the cage, standing vertically after having knocked the flooring out and a very bloody, lifeless guinea pig on the ground of the adjoining run. It was a very traumatising experience and since I have been unable to sleep, and I often get upset about feeling I could've done more by going out as soon as I heard noises or by reinforcing his cage more.

I would love to know what all you pet lovers out there would do to get over this? I have exams coming up and I really need the sleep

So sorry you experienced this

it will take time to get over, but know that sometimes these things just happen, despite our very best efforts to protect our animals, accidents happen.

It's unlikely your GP suffered for long, probably went into shock very quickly.

Don't beat yourself up, grieve for yous lost friend xx

I don't think you do actually get over it, you learn to live with it I believe. Time and just getting on with life day by day will help you get to a place where it is not quite as raw. Really feel for you though as I remember and still mourn a rabbit my cousin and I were petting torn from our arms by the local hunt's dogs and that was 45 years ago !
