Nick Abbot! Now you're talking!!! Nick has a regular slot on LBC, 10.00pm - 1.00am, Fridays and Saturdays, he also sits in at this time and sometimes overnight, when the regular presenter goes absent. He's an excellent listen.

ETA, I just read your last paragraph properly, I misunderstood. Sorry to say that I don't know which Midlands station he's been on.

He said he did some work in Birmingham but then said it might have been Manchester! I've been a fan of Nick since 1994 and am not aware of him ever working at a station based in Birmingham but he did do a week at Key 103 in Manchester in 2001.

A few years ago I remember him talking about coming up to Birmingham for a job interview and not liking the city. He didn't say when that was though. However since then he changed his mind on the city when he visited for a few days the other year - I'm not aware that was for radio work though.

It doesn't surprise in the least with the usual pack of ignorant London press/media constantly running down Birmingham, that it wasn't until he recently actually ventured north of the Watford Gap that he changed his opinion, once he had paid the city a visit again.People like Abbot make me sick, the usual loudouth London media types that jump on the anti Birmingham bandwagon but have never actually visited the place until the regeneration projects, to find out for themselves.I have had experience of people I have met from London who then visited Birmingham, absolutely loved the place and couldn't understand why the city continually got such bad press from London ?

It's not just London though is it? A lot of the country, even people in the wider Midlands, have a misconception about Birmingham. I've known people come to visit Birmingham from all over the country and been surprised at how much they loved the city - some are even repeat visitors now.

To be fair Nick did also say some of his opinion of the city came from travelling to North Wales as a child and travelling through I presume over Spaghetti Junction - I wouldn't be surprised if most people's incorrect opinion of Birmingham is built from something similar.

I would normally agree put Abbot also says how rubbish London is and loads of other places across the country and Nick went to school in Glasgow. As I posted in the football thread it was terrible most national Radio & TV Stations didn't do commentary on West Brom v Aston Villa.

I heard the half hour sports/football bulletins on Talksport and 5live last night and Villa / Albion was the last game mentioned.

With a media obsessed with the London and Manchester clubs what chance have you got ? If I ever tune into the radio national evening sports talk shows there they are again covering the same old topics concerning the same clubs.Thank god for local radio and WM are a credit for their local coverage and we can all get away from this lazy national radio and the pure boredom they generate discussing Man U.,City,Chelsea,Arsenal etc. and excluding and neglecting important and major parts of the UK.

That's very odd, why did Adrian quit in the first place and why don't they start the new breakfast at the end of February rather than have Richard Wilford stand in for the first 2 mouths?

If Adrian is coming back but only wants to do 2 hours, I think WM's schedule should be this
05:00 Michelle Dawes
06:00 Pete Morgan
09:00 Adrian Goldberg
11:00 Caroline Martin
14:00 Danny Kelly

What an odd and stupid thing to do. The schedule is now far too busy with far too many shows. It's effectively a major demotion for Pete which is unfair, as I believe he's been pretty good during his time on breakfast.

I have a feeling that Pete could leave when his contract runs out. I don't think it is a stupid thing to do because Adrian is a very good and well liked presenter.I can't understand why WM didn't do this when Adrian left.

Michelle Dawes must be upset she has only been on the early show since September and she has already been kicked off!

Has she still got Sundays?

Pete's a bit high profile for 5am isnt he?

Its more a slot for a junior presenter in my opinion.

I had a listen to Iain Lee's show for the first time yesterday - I used to listen to BBC WM on Saturdays between 9am-midday a lot when Adrian Goldberg was in that timeslot, but haven't in recent years since my working hours changed, although I'd been meaning to give Iain a listen for a while.

Lee's show is very different to that obviously, but I found it most enjoyable. The leading topic of "words you cannot say" was the sort of risky one I'd expect from Iain, but he brought humour to it and managed to steer most of his callers away from saying offensive words on air! I've always thought he was funny and he amused me yesterday.

You have missed out on his best show (last week). He had Roger ranjit (not sure on the spell) who called (and does every week) he also had a call from a man called Pete who said that we should shoot all the people who are in the UK and not born here and the best caller about 2 hours 35 minutes in when Iain and Gordon sing all about that bass - http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p02cz003.
