Thought both teams were fairly average.

We haven't looked that composed on the ball and exciting going forward since 1990 (for the first 70 minutes anyway). Wilshere coming on and Rooney not going off hindered the way we finished the game.

We can beat Uruguay and Costa Rica.

Henderson - non-existent
Sterling - Excellent
Rooney - Made the goal and did nothing else
Welbeck - Decent game
Sturridge - Shame he had to go off; looked promising before that
Barkley - Had bright spells
Wilshere - As non-existent as Henderson
Lallana - Didn't do much”

cant argue with most of that

as I said earlier not sure if the formation led to how much of the game bypassed the central midfielders

No one ever steps up, and Gerrard is a waste deep for England.

Fack it

Lallana, Wilshere and Barkley are young and learning. Rooney's meant to be the optimum age but is going backwards, for England at least.

Costa Rica result has worked well for England. Uruguay could've been a tense, nervy game, but now we know what they'll be coming to do. It's still definitely coming home.

The two biggest elements to that defeat:

Baines at left back - was consistently outpaced and overlapped by Candreva and Darmian and it was always a matter of time before either of them would produce a cross from that position that could result in a goal and so it proved.

Lack of stamina - England really seemed to run out of steam in that second half and as the energy dried up, so did the ideas and so did the skill, as was illustrated by that run of woeful crosses towards the end of that second half.

The defence is the bigger problem and Baines must either be replaced or given better cover or he could get similarly torn to shreds by the Uruguyan wingers on Thursday.

Full credit to Italy, they were far more solid at the back and with Pirlo running things in midfield and Candreva making those runs down the right wing, they were able to withstand England's pressure and create chances in equal measure.

Barkley had a few runs, 1 of which was stopped by his own team mate!!

So stick with the same shite is your plan??

Sloppy defensively and a few missed chances, but overall we looked good going forward. We could've done with Ashley Cole for that experience really, they were running rings around Baines at times.

Pirlo failed to complete 5% of his 108 passes tonight, useless.

How?

I'm a massive Rooney fan, I think he's world class but lets face it, other than the assist tonight he was woeful.

Totally gutted by that result!

We dominated Italy in that second half who were camped in their own half!

Italy were very, very professional and extremely well organised.

England played well enough though and Sterling had a great game

Excellent going forward, the younger players made a real difference, so much more effort than in 2010. We really need to sort out the support for the defence we looked poor at the back

I was DUDE GUARANTEED a win based on expert analysis of the first half against the scrubs. That's the last time I put my faith in someone who clearly has no clue what they're talking about.

Cole should have made the team instead of that waste of space.

Pirlo didn't even need to get up gears IMO.

Notice he never suffered from cramp unlike England's midfielders.

Johnson and Baines awful. Rooney and Gerrard earn half a million a week between them and can't hit the target from a free kick.

And England played well??

Harsh result on England - they were good for a draw at least, still hope having seen the other 2 teams play.

Gutted that we lost as felt we dessert a draw but we never really look like scoring a equaliser.

Now we can't not afford to lose to Uruguay on Thursday or we are out of World Cup.

Same old story in tournament football, play anyone who isn't completely useless and we lose.
