The two biggest elements to that defeat:
Baines at left back - was consistently outpaced and overlapped by Candreva and Darmian and it was always a matter of time before either of them would produce a cross from that position that could result in a goal and so it proved.
Lack of stamina - England really seemed to run out of steam in that second half and as the energy dried up, so did the ideas and so did the skill, as was illustrated by that run of woeful crosses towards the end of that second half.
The defence is the bigger problem and Baines must either be replaced or given better cover or he could get similarly torn to shreds by the Uruguyan wingers on Thursday.
Full credit to Italy, they were far more solid at the back and with Pirlo running things in midfield and Candreva making those runs down the right wing, they were able to withstand England's pressure and create chances in equal measure.
