How?

I'm a massive Rooney fan, I think he's world class but lets face it, other than the assist tonight he was woeful.
Indeed, yet again he fails to turn up at the World Cup

We need to seed our kids who can be good National Team Players...unless we do we will continue to fight a losing battle on the world stage.

Totally gutted by that result!

We dominated Italy in that second half who were camped in their own half!
Not really. It was typical shut up shop football from Italy.

Even their last WC win was low scoring throughout.

Pirlo didn't even need to get up gears IMO.

Notice he never suffered from cramp unlike England's midfielders.
RTE's panel are pointing out that not a single Italian player got cramp

The blame he is getting is ridiculous, he set up the goal with a good cross and he's a top player.
More like an average player in an over rated English club.

He was useless in the last World Cup( probably do to cheating on his wife) and is again apart from a cross is useless tonight.

If you can't play at international level then they shouldn't be on the team.

Big pay cheques does not equate to skill.

Can't believe we got beaten by a bunch of no mark scrubs.
They mocked us by bringing on Immobile. I wouldn't recognise him in Maccy Ds, and he plays for Torino? WTF? Beazer Home Premier or something?

The positive thing about having no expectations is you can't be disappointed when we lose.

Costa Rica result has worked well for England. Uruguay could've been a tense, nervy game, but now we know what they'll be coming to do. It's still definitely coming home.
Yep
Uruguay would have played 10 at the back if they had won.
It will be an open game against Uruguay but we will catch them on the break.
We will beat Uruguay.

It's more clueless bile than criticism.
Who is clueless,,Sorry but Rooney for England in major competitions has been woeful, he might have crossed the ball for a goal,, but we lost the game, he did nothing else in the game and was poor in getting back. Sorry of you are a Rooney fan and perhaps your bias is blinding you

I was gutted we lost but not frustrated like i am normally when england play. I quite enjoyed it. It was the left hand side like the commentators said in the studio that let us down really. I hope roy changes that around the next game

Some positives for England but the big worry for me is that the balance of the team just doesn't look right. No point having a go at individual players (e.g. Rooney) when they're being asked to play out of position.

Lallana, Wilshere and Barkley are young and learning. Rooney's meant to be the optimum age but is going backwards, for England at least.
Not good enough for a World Cup then?
People have clamoured for them to start and yet when they came on, they did nothing. How is that going to progress them or the team?

Wayne Rooney needs to retire from international football immediately, it doesn't matter how good he is for Man U he is absolute horseshit in an England shirt and has been since Euro 2004. He hasn't even got an injury excuse to hide behind this time.

Ah, well.

The positives that our young players look promising - in particular, Sterling performed excellently, MOM. Welbeck also had a decent game, and Sturridge got his goal. Rooney has not answered his critics; and his performance tonight, overall was particularly disappointing. Gerrard, for his part was also disappointing - and all Wilshere seemed to do is fall on the floor.

The second half was notable for us being quite poor in the final third; we were the masters of 'nearly.' Baines' performance tonight proves why we should have taken Cole - Jagielka had a okay night, but Glen Johnson is dire. It's tragic that he's our first-choice right-back. Why on earth he kept on shooting from distance at goal is beyond me. We needed to control Italy down those flanks, particularly the left flank - every time they went down, they looked like they were going to score.Balotelli, after a slow start turned up. Will be an interesting tournament for him.

Overall, we weren't too bad. We need win against Uruguay and Costa Rica, but those are winnable games. We'll have to play for second place.

Intelligent players, know when to use and conserve their energy.

England bit like the PL = all pace, very fast, brainless at times and no end product.

I think it's just the opposite. Uruguay will be more desperate to win than they would have been if they had beaten Costa Rica.
