Whats his goal per game at the world cup? ( and i mean the main tournament not qualifiers? )
Same as Messi's and we all know how terrible he is

Time to blame a Manchester United player.

Who's your pick tonight England fans?
Never once believed that Rooney was an England Player, he does not have that kind of heart in him...he is a self player and coming to the end of his footballing life, he will not change. My pick would be Sturridge or Sterling, I hope my spelling is not too bad

England beat Uruguay, Costa Rica beat both Italy and England. Uruguay beat Italy. England lose two games and still qualify. Now that would be a bizarre way to go through,

pathetic, can't say I expected anything more though, England have to beat both Uruguay and costa rica now, which I can't seem them doing to be honest, we might be able to beat Uruguay since they somehow did even more pathetically than England, but I really don't see us winning against costa rica.

No positives in that match, England lost against an average efficient side, none of the subs could make an impact in a forgone conclusion.

I thought we played quite well, but there was just no composure at all up front. Two huge games coming up next week now.

It's amazing that an overreaction can stand out even in this thread, but there we are.

A draw would have been a fair result I think.

Wilshire and Lallana?
Before I comment further
They were as poor as Rooney, although they came on and it's harder to get in to a game sometimes. Rooney had 90 minutes.

I never did either, even after a couple of good games in 2004

I find it funny that people are saying now what I've been saying about him for 10 years, I just stay out of it

Not slagging for the sake of it but our two big game players just simply didn't turn up. Gerrard and Rooney contributed little.

There is no getting away from that fact.

Also, if you don't play Rooney in his position then I don't think he should play, whether he should play in his best position is another story.

Kept the ball well I thought, looked comfortable on it, which is a first for England for a long time.

That was the one issue with Sterling starting; we lost his impact of pace when the defence started to tire. Barkley did well enough, though.

Not a bad game although it did fizzle out a bit. Maybe I was spoiled by last night. Was hoping that England could nick a draw (am Welsh, but supported Southampton for 38 years so would be churlish to think otherwise..) but they just didn't have enough zip and imagination, really. And the winning goal just seemed so perfunctory.

Thursday will certainly be interesting. Costa Rica certainly shaken things up!

I think both of them struggled badly with the heat.

You have to remember Rooney was playing out of position for most of the match.

You seriously think you were ahead of the curve slagging off Rooney for England?

He's scored 39 goals for England and set up the only goal tonight. Your obvious hatred of him for some unknown reason is your own problem but he was out of position and still had a major influence on the goal.
Unknown reason,,,he puts no effort into the 2010 World Cup and then has the cheek to have a go at England fans down the tv camera's.

Gerard a missing man tonight - big players turn up at the top, seems to go missing when it really matters over the last few years.
Same with Rooney : both seem to fail to turn up at every tournament

We played alright, but clearly not good enough. I thought Sterling was awesome though. Really like his style.

In world cups messi has been terrible. And messi has scored in a world cup. What that has to do with rooney being crap in major competition the last ten years though i don't know?

Baines was by far the worst. Looks to be out of his depth without a winger. Very overrated.

Bad mistake not bringing in Cole.
