It's interesting to see the votes are mostly leaning towards yes.

No friggin way.

Her time is done, she's been in the show over too long a period as it is, time to move on.

Yes. I'm sure some would dislike the idea but I could actually see River working as a full time companion with Capaldi's Doctor (for a series at least).

I could really see them as equal sparring partners/a disagreeing couple... in a way I don't think River has been with the previous Doctor's (she always seemed the dominant force in many ways).

Can River actually meet Twelve? She knew his full lifecycle, up to and including his death at Trenzalore. If he's not buried there anymore, due to the saving of the Time Lords, then either she never meets his future incarnations, or she now has lots of adventures she didn't have previously.

Good point now everything has changed. How about 12 meets an alternate version of River ?. Remember this is sci fi anything can and will happen. Amy talked about it in AGMGTW. She wanted her daughter to be "Melody Pond" superhero not "Melody Williams" geography teacher. Tragic and ironic considering what later happened to her. Could argue the doctor was her kryptonite. She survived the childhood from hell and storm cage. Just couldn't survive being the doctors wife and the paradox of their back to front relationship. Who would she have been if her parents had never gone traveling with the doctor ?. Bring her back if there is a good story for her and 12.

No I don't like River. I'd prefer him to meet Jack.

If he does stay for 2 or 3 seasons plus christmas specials will have plus plenty of time and opportunity to see some of his old friends. Would also like to see Jack back.

There was a time when I did like River Song, back when she was interesting, when she was mysterious, but all that changed, once she turned out to be the fifty something year old daughter of a twenty something year old whore, I really went off her, and I hope she never returns.

She was arrogant, vile and watching her "sexy" antics was embarrassing more than anything else.

Knowing SM she probably will return at some point, but I really, really hope she doesn't.

Since when was Amy a whore ?. Rory was her husband and the only person she slept with. Also thought A K looked good for her age which is just a number anyway. People over 30 are allowed to flirt and even have sex you know!.

Given Moffat's love for the old timey wimey, I definitely think it's possible that she could meet Twelve onscreen, even if it's only once really.

I'm sorry you're so troubled by the idea of women having sex.

I've said this before on this forum, but found the chemistry between Alex and Matt utterly convincing and not remotely creepy. And Amy/Rory...certain parts of Amy's Choice, TPO/TBB, Asylum..and TATM had me quite emotional. Let's face it, we 'saw' Amy from early twenties to death pretty much devoted to and in love with Rory, with a few minor bumps along the way. Happens. (not your run of the mill bumps in this instance, obviously!)

Matt and Alex had seriously great chemistry. You won't get any disagreements from me on that one.

I know! Just look at Rod Stewart and Des O' Connor. They've become Fathers in their early seventies! They do have young wives though.

I voted 'not bothered'.....but on reflection I am veering towards NO!

River had her time - and the early appearances were fine. Latterly she became a bit of a weird mixed-up character (that awful "timey-wimey" phrase again!! ).

Enough of the 'sweetie' and keep her in the library!!

Disturbing attitudes in that post.

I thought science fiction was strange and unusual, and then I read that!

What a bizarre attitude to women.

Is it me or is there a worrying latent misogyny in some people's attitude towards River's sexuality/confidence? I see it a lot on Twitter and Tumblr as well and it's quite irritating. It says more about certainviewers than it does about the character or even Steven Moffat's writing at times?

I voted "no".

I really wanted to vote "NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO " but that option had been overlooked by the OP.

Gender has nothing to do with it, if the character was played by a man, I'd probably feel the same.

Worth adding that the main reason I disliked River Song wasn't because she was a cougar. Sure, I didn't like the fact that she was flirting with men less than half her age, but that wasn't the reason I disliked her. No, the reason I disliked her was because the character was better when she was mysterious. That, and her personality, she was arrogant, smug and vile, so the fact that she tried to have relationships with young guys is quite far down on my list of reasons why I disliked River Song.

Cougar? Young Guys?

I'd say you could accuse The Doctor of being a bit of a cradle snatcher considering...(I wont mention the Rose 'romance' at this poin....whoops.) but considering she had timelord DNA it's a whole different scenario. I think she was brave, loyal and strong, personally. An intriguing character.

I'm torn on this one. On the one hand, the idea of seeing River with 12 is intriguing; on the other I'm not sure she would have any chemistry with him and that would be a pity. The chemistry between her and 11 was something special.

I think her story is probably done. Also I think that there will not be any "Romance" with 12. He is a reboot of 1 in a way, so I think he will lean more towards crotchety old man and be a father figure to Clara and the new male companion rather than being involved in any romance himself. That's a good thing, I think.

I wonder if they will follow the trend with the rest of the Doctors to come. What will they come up with for 15 (4) then?? Very hard act to follow!!

I agree. Never get the whole 'older woman' view. Despite appearances, he is much older than her. The part in the the impossible astronaut where he refer's to her as 'mrs robinson' always makes me cringe because he always thinks of himself as the age he is rather than what his physical appearance looks like, so normally he would never make a comment that implied river was the older woman, becuase he know's he is the much older man.

Also, you have to remember that river was mels and roughly the same age as Amy then she became river and looked physically older but was still the same age so the character is probably a lot younger than she looks.

I think my opinion is the same as a few people. The character is great I really liked her, but her ending in series 7 was perfect and I think bringing her back would feel forced. I'm sure she's having a lot of off screen adventures with Twelve but as far as what we see I think her story is over. But it wouldn't be the end of the world if she did come back and I'm sure I would look forward to it. I still voted no.

are we talking about the same River Song, the one who married a 1000 yr old Time Lord and showed very little interest in young guys??
