Seriously does Big Brother have a factory churning these caricatures out? I mean it is no way reflective in real terms of black women in society but somehow it's always the same prototype. I thought we peaked with Alexandra but year after year it gets more and more agenda driven. Along with ultra camp gay man it's the one 'character type' that is guaranteed another sequel.

Every.

This is definitely an unfair view. Pauline has not been cast due to her colour, it's cause they knew she was a proper shitstirrer and ideal BB HM. There's no agenda whatsoever.

What about Scottish women too.
There's a bit of a history of BB throwing a certain type of stereotype (or archetype if you prefer) of Scottish women in the house too.

Ps: thank you for the view from the production team at Big Brother. I mean I presume you work in BB production team being that you know for sure their selection process.

Has there ever been a non camp male? and has there ever been a non butch acting/looking lesbian?(shabby/lisa/wolfie) of the top of my head. BB is seriously outdated with its views

It doesn't necessarily mean that it's a conscious agenda, or that it's deliberate at all. Just that it perhaps reveals something about the mindset of people who do the casting. They don't even have to be consciously aware of what they're doing, but it seems to happen anyway.

I've noticed this question being raised in relation to past series of BB. Does the stereotype of the angry black woman exist outside of BB? If it does, I'm not aware of it.

Unfortunately BB loves a stereotype here is just a few i have noticed

camp gay guy.
argumentative black girl.
cocky cockney/Londoner.
thick essex person.
vain shallow models in their early twenties.
asian girl who is too quiet.
Posh person who is a bit snobby.
Working class person who hates posh people intensely.
Chav

The important thing is to obviously remember most people don't conform to these silly stereotypes it is just BB being lazy and unimaginative.

Angry Black Woman
Fit Beefcake
Gay Drama Queen
Fit Lads mag eventual.
Bubbly fat girl
Eye Candy for the maturer lady
Elegally Blonde Bimbet

It's a dynamic that works, trailed out ad nauseum. Playing it safe.

Nothing sinister behind it as a selection template, but it informs stereotypes, and in particular of the "Angry Black Woman" a racial stereotype at that, and anger, it's a terrible trait, that makes it even worse.

The way I see it, he made it sound like 'schlong' -implying that Pauline in fact has a sausage where there should be some mash.
Wouldn't surprise me either.

They absolutely do cast according to 'type'. A Daily Mail reporter did a long article years ago having got far in the audition process. It was a fascinating read, particularly the psych stuff. Anyway, she got a sneaky look at her notes written by the casting researcher, who'd written "Stereotype: angry Jewish princess".

An Thropologist did a great thread last year about the archetypes they seem to recast each year.

I think its always been an attempt to re-create the Charley Uchea thing but Charley was somewhat funny whereas these wannabe versions are all vicious.

Before Charley we didn't have the same amount of angry black women on BB. Whereas its almost been a yearly occurrence since.

Maybe the production team are tricked.? Because often they appear good when they enter and suddenly go down hill.

Perhaps she was cast to tick the unlikable person from the West Midlands box. I seem to recall we have had a few of those too.
