Hopefully people will listen to what he says and learn something this time rather than send him Twitter abuse because he's not cracking jokes or screaming.

He'll get better, and just as importantly, we'll get used to him. A lot of it is familiarity with voices we're used to.

Surely the bbc should choose a good broadcaster, instead of forcing us to get used to this boring monotonous chap?

I'm very fickle. The other night I'd have agreed with you wholeheartedly; now I'm supporting him because he's an underdog !

They're not forcing you. If insight isn't your thing because you don't like someone's voice, they have alternative commentary on the red button.

Phil's doing the Russia game tonight.
He's in the studio rather than the commentary box for Russia v South Korea.

He gave the impression on Twitter that he was commentating.

Full credit to Phil for taking the stick firmly on the chin and with a smile and sense of humour as well.
Terrible commentator but a top, top geezer!

At least Robbie Savage didn't do the England match. Did you hear him last night on USA v Ghana? Now he is a TERRIBLE commentator. Phil Neville is just kind of mediocre. I wouldn't say he was terrible.

He has just been on the bbc with gabby logan (wearing a winter coat!?). He is completely unintelligible.

Thank goodness its on ITV. They may miss a goal, but no phil is a bonus.

I always wonder why Savage is there at all. Perhaps some odd chavvy audience he attracts

You just have convenient trouble understanding people you don't like.

No, I just have a wish for clear language by presenters.

I am no fan of linekar, but he is a clear speaker.

He was on the highlights for the England Vs Uruguay game on BBC earlier...

Sounded pretty poor, no excitement in his voice at all.

I was not too bothered by him in the Italy game, but I get it now.

If folk want the full Neville commentary it will be on the World Cup Replay at 01.05 on BBC 2

He's been fine, if he hadn't been bad in the first game people wouldn't have any complaint about him tonight.

He's been pretty good tonight, a bit monotone but the analysis is better than most.
