Mark Lawrenson
Barely interested in football. More interested in making a name for himself as a stand up comic. Every comment is flippant or derogatory. Absolutely loathe him.

Always sounds as if he'd rather be anywhere other than at the match. All expenses trip to the World Cup and he acts like that. What a bore.

What a cushy number he's had for twenty years. A big clear out would be nice.

Well maybe if England looked like they would win a match, he would get a bit of spark to his voice.
He's probably thinking, like me... same old... same old |

I really don't mind him. Think a lot of his comments make sense.
Wasn;t impressed by Phil Neville though. He kept on saying thet England had plenty of time left to score - even when there were 2 minutes plus injury time left. Clarke Carlisle's hobby seems to be heckling the referees. He annoys me too. |

Lawrenson's OK for me. I quite like his dry "world weary" delivery. Occasionally one of his jokes is actually funny. And he knows his stuff. He doesn't simply state the obvious like most of them.
Phil Nevile plumbed new depths of dullness though in the Italy game. Tone has never been more mono. |

Lawro just has his style that he wants to stick to. It can be a bit grating but we don't often hear him commentating due to the lack of live football on BBC so he's not on so frequently to get very annoying. Makes a nice change of pace sometimes. I was irritated by his commentary on England vs Italy in the Euros though, when he was openly hoping for Italian players to be/get injured.

I'll never forgive him for saying "there's no I in "team"" and "TEAM = Together Everybody Achieves More". This was only a couple years ago! During the last Euros I think. Might have been a friendly.

I watched a match yesterday when he was commentating and he made it feel depressing.
He was moaning so much and lingering on the negative and ignoring the positive. He moaned about some goal line graphic which came up and I wondered what on earth he was moaning about. He's better suited for commentating on The Eurovision Song Contest where he can be as sarcastic as he wants and whine about the politics of it all. He just turns watching any football match into a miserable experience. If a match is a bit boring it would help if the commentator tried to keep the viewer engaged and not make it any more boring than it already is. |

I like his commentary, I did laugh out loud last night when Fred got substituted - "you better warm up, because your coming off".
When Jo was going to come on - he mentioned that the 3 attacking Brazil players were Fred, Jo & Bernard in his deadpan way. That tickled me. |

I laughed at the one in the Argentina game where the referee noticeably went too far back when pacing out the ten yards, and Lawrenson said "You wouldn't want that guy measuring up your carpet, would you?"

More interesting in moaning like an old goat than saying anything insightful tactically. I'd rather listen to Phil Neville.

I think he's hilarious, but dry sarcasm is my kinda humour
The rest of the co-commentators have made me want to mute it |
