nexus 4 - unlocked or not?

The guys over at xda are not wrong but you have misinterpreted what is on that forum. A locked /unlocked bootloader is not associated with a network lock. Un locking the bootloader on your Nexus 4 enables you to load a custom recovery to flash custom roms. You basically unlock the bootloader to hack your phone.

You are correct in saying there are many ways to discover the network lock status - one way is via one of the hidden menus which I tried to remember but gave the wrong code.

You need to learn the lesson that DS is not the place to ask questions like this as the members have very limited technical knowledge. You should always read xda first.

I do not see why this thread degenerated into insults.
