...what would be on your menu?

my starter - trio of dim sum (siew mai, spring roll and yam puff)

main - Cantonese roast duck (deboned), stir-fried kailan in garlic sauce and steamed rice

dessert - home-made coconut ice cream with love letters (a crispy & crunchy biscuit)

My food wouldn't win, but I'd do it just for the experience.

I'd make what I know tastes good and what I know I can make really well, every time:

Starter: curry lentil soup with homemade sourdough bread

Main: Indian butter chicken with rice, side of sautéed cabbage

Dessert: carrot cake with cream cheese frosting

Not an Indian theme, it's just that the soup and butter chicken are a favorite in our house. I wouldn't do any 'entertainment', I think it ends up looking tacky/desperate/embarrassing most of the time.

Hehe, yeah, I guess you wouldn't have any control over the final editing.

The carrot cake recipe I have is pretty faffy, but so worth it. I sometimes make it for hubby's birthday or a special occasion.

If only Come Dine With Me could be the food everyone eats most of the time.

My Family Favourites Come Dine with me would be :-SMT +

Soup - Home made soup - your families choice- my family choice is chicken with rice and veg OR Lentil OR mushroom
Mince- our ancient family recipe does it with loads of onions, garlic and BISTO to finish it off.
Tatties - can be mashed with milk and butter or just some lovely boiled spuds
+ - Apple pie with cream and home made ice cream. We don't do custard

Baked beans or processed peas are allowed with the mince. Carrots on the side are acceptable

I'd like to think I could push the boat out for a proper Come Dine With Me - I'm having a think

I'd do stuff that I've made and know has gone down well at dinner parties I've done in the past.

Starter - Seared tuna with teriaki mushroom risotto and kaffir lime foam.

OR Goats cheese mousse with homemade beetroot relish and red onion marmalade.

Main - Loin of cod wrapped in prosciutto with triple cooked chips, samphire and pea puree.

OR Venison with smoked cheese and garlic mash, roasted beetroot and a red wine and chocolate sauce.

Dessert - My own recipe white chocolate and salted caramel cheesecake (with Oreo base). Everyone who has ever tried it has gone back for seconds and sometimes thirds!

I think mine would be:

Starter: Mushrooms stuffed with ricotta, parmesan and chilli
Main course: Vegetable cobbler (probably courgette, onion, mushrooms, swede and tomatoes) - cheesy scones (I do make lovely scones, if I do say so myself!)
Dessert: Lemon sponge puddle pudding, served with single cream

It can be a bit of a challenge for many contestants when there is a vegetarian coming to dinner
... but so worth the effort for extra points.

Starter mini baked camemberts with bread
Creamy chicken and leek parsnip pot pies (my chicken would be quorn)
Dessert rhubarb crumble

People would go on about no effort or skills. But yeah at least it would be well cooked.

Entertainment would be getting drunk.

What do you do with the biscuit cream filling. Do you crush the whole biscuit, or discsrd the filling.?

I don't really make starters so I would be a bit stuck on that…might have to come back to that later.
For mains I would make what I do best - roast chicken with all the trimmings. Not very adventurous or sophisticated but it does taste really nice.
Dessert would be trio of large and mini cupcakes in desserty-type flavours - coffee, Bakewell, lemon.

For entertainments I would perhaps do a mini 'pub quiz', with a small prize for the winner.

I just stick the whole biscuit with the cream in the food processor and keep putting knobs of butter in until it reaches the right consistency.

Although I've thought of another dessert that I did that went down extremely well and that was a fried jam sandwich with homemade gingerbread ice cream and a popping candy shot. The sandwich is sliced brioche with strawberry jam and sliced strawberries made into a sandwich, you then dip it in a simple pancake batter and fry. Serve still warm and it's lovely, like a little posh jam doughnut.

I don't either, but my choice was soup, something we often have as our main meal in the evening, I would just serve a small portion as a starter.

Starter I'd do my lemon risotto.
For mains, either, venison with caramelised onions, mandarin orange and dauphinoise or skate wings with black butter and capers.

Not huge on deserts but my rhubarb sorbet is good. I'd have to think of something to jazz it up with.

Starter - Chilli fried Halloumi, served on a bed of rocket.

Main - Duck breast with an orange and mango sauce, served with mashed potato and green beans.

Pudding - Arroz con leche.


It wouldn't win, but I like it.

They would say there's "not much cooking" for the starter and cold rice pudding would scare a lot of people.

I think I would do:

Starter: Fried squid and chorizo salad
Main: Spiced roast poussin with roasted vegetables and couscous
Dessert: Salted caramel chocolate pots

I would do -
Starters - tapas, gazpacho
Main - paella, with a vegetarian version for me
Pudding - key lime pie
I wouldn't have any entertainment, I agree with MrsP upthread. I think it looks forced and a little bit cringy sometimes.

Surely good conversation should be all the entertainment needed at a dinner party.

Most guests hate someone singing and feel obliged to pretend to be enjoying it just to be polite. But there was one particular episode where one of the contestants, who has the most annoying laugh, burst into song and stunned her guest with an amazing singing voice. It was like a SuBo moment. A surprising treat for her guests and viewers.

Starter: Cup a Soup
Main: Medley of Pot Noodle with Fish Fingers on the Side.
Dessert: Angel Delight

I wish someone on CDWM would do this!

Could tell you all a secret. I actually applied to be on the show and got as far as being interviewed. However its appears I'm not wacky enough and didn't get picked though one of the contestants that did get selected was my mrs ex-boss.

My menu was pretty straightforward
- medley of nibbles, chicken tikka, pokaros, etc
- Thali (two main curries, one side curry, rice, chapattis, papadoms, etc)
- Trio of deserts, mango kulfi ice cream, kheer (rice pudding) and burfi (coconut, powdered milk, sugar and butter).

Would have been very pressed for time. Spoke to the producer and they didn't like you preparing too much in advance though getting help is up to you.

Starter - Greek salad.
Main - Cod, roasted in the oven with butter beans, garlic, cherry tomatoes, pesto, red peppers and onions. You chuck it all in a baking tray and it takes no time at all. It's lush.
Pud - Meringues with whipped cream and some sort of fruit, cooked down a bit in some suitable booze.

That would all be easy peasy to do in the time. So I could do some swanky cocktails, too.
