Not all Plasma's (and LCD's) support High Def. Even when you find a modern one that does (it will have a sticker on it), you must make sure its got a DVI and HDMI connection. DVI connections are already in use (just), and some high def equipment will prolly use it (maybe high Def DVD machines). But Sky are going to use the HDMI connection, which is even more rare. At the moment, I think you will find it difficult to find a Plasma that conforms to this spec. I would wait another 6-12 months, by which time there should a lot more High Def ready and "Sky High Def" ready tv's around (Sky High def launches next year).

There's a write-up in another forum called cheapest 42" plasma search,help??.
I think the 'Richard' you refer to is the company Richard Sounds. They are very competitive, on-line and in the high-street. They also know what they are talking about - they're not staffed by eedgits! I think their website is www.richersounds.co.uk. |

Presumably any DTV set-top box will run these screens?

Might be worth buying a Panasonic TH37PE30 (DTV and CI slot in one convienient box) its a few quid more but a lot less hassle and has a damn good picture and looks very cool. Mind you it doesn't do Hi-Def.

Youre not going to get a 42" plasma for £1000, let alone a HI-Def compatible one.
Prices for a decent SD (standard definition) panel start at around £1,300, and you'll pay well over £2000 for anything HD compatible. |

Depends on Size mate My Hitachi 32" plasma has DVI HDCP compatable input resolves 720p no problem and 1080i although that is scaled to fit this cost me £1700 from Empire direct last september. Now it's £1500 and the 42" version is just £2000. |

For Hi-Def you NEED at least a DVI, HDMI and Component Connectors on it, otherwise you're gonna be stuck with the wrong type of Hi-Def connector when you buy things in the future.

Also, a lot of screens will 'resolve' 720p, but to view HD at its best you need a panel that has a NATIVE resolution of 720p. |

I read a TV and Video mag this month and it seemed to me that the round up of cheap plasma's they did just proved the old adage " You get what you pay for" none of the ones that they looked at particularly inspired me! |
