Nigeria probably wont qualify now, the other two will beat Iran for sure. Can't believe the lack of urgency from them, especially in the last half hour.

I actually think Nigeria were worse than Iran tonight because at least Iran played to their strengths and got the point they played for - the Nigerians had by far the majority of possession but just lacked the quality to do anything with it.
They were definitely the worst team on the pitch tonight. The commentators should quit being so condescending about Iran - they held their own with a decent defence against whatever nonsense Nigeria were peddling.

Well that was poor.

I'm pleased I have Game of Thrones to watch to wake me up before the next game.

I hope so. How are the US? They're usually high energy but without much cutting edge.

I wouldn't be surprised if down the line this game was subject to irregular betting patterns.

Nor would I, it was so obvious.

Imagine the USA took football seriously, they'd be World Cup winners in no time.

Could be a scenario where someone comes through this group in 2 points, either way Iran know they'll still be in with a chance of going through come the last game, Nigeria will surely have to beat Bosnia, because a defeat and they're pretty much doomed cause they should get beaten quite easily by Argentina

Most clean sheets vs lowest scorers ending 0-0 isn't a massive surprise. Nigeria just really are terrible.

Nonsense. Believe it or not, 0-0 draws happen in World Cup tournaments.

I always wonder what would happen if they seriously got behind it and there was some big TV money and sponsorship etc. Would the top players begin to head there earlier in their careers and make MLS a genuinely top division?

There are some evil, evil people in this world:

Euro TV broadcasters: "So what do you have for prime-time viewers in the EU tonight then?"

FIFA: "Iran vs Nigeria!" (snigger).

But aren't they the champions of Africa right now?

On what grounds?

They are only World Champions at men playing rounders, men playing netball, and a form of rugby with helmets ... in short, only games that no-one else plays!!

Yes but they've been poor lately, Chris Waddle said on radio 5 they've been dire for the last year

Yes, their sports are all shite. But they have serious money bbehind them. If they had serious money behind their domestic football then they might develop a good league and later a good infrastructure.

Fair enough. Guess we'll know for sure if they suddenly get really good in the next game.

I know that. However, Nigeria treated it like a friendly. There was no urgency. The corners were dire. I didn't say it was fixed, just saying I wouldn't be surprised if it was.

Nothing to do with that ... Bobby Moore, Beckenbauer and Pele went there in the 70s with the same idea.

They aren't interested.

Only in their own games.

The money argument is irrelevant

They were past their peak though, weren't they? I have some family out there who said that it seems to be gradually growing in popularity. Not sure what to make of that but with a large and growing Hispanic community, that would make sense.
