Good win for the USA but does Robbie Savage have something against Ghana? Bizarre commentating from him to say the least.

I give Mauricio Pochettino until Christmas to prove himself or else Jurgen Klinsmann will be given the Spurs job.

I favoured USA as the match went on, they defended well for the most part and took their chances, Savage probably was thinking the same.

Still gutted for Ghana but they just weren't clinical enough. 20 odd chances and only 1 goal, with 'Hollywood' shots and crosses all over the place. I just can't see them qualifying now and their chances before today weren't great.
Good character shown by USA, gave the best possible response to the equaliser, against the run of play. They won't make it easy for Portugal and USA have plenty of fans in Brazil. |

He gets very engaged into the games so he was just growing frustrated with their wastefulness, which is fair enough. I enjoyed his commentary for the most part, despite a few silly comments.

Well done USA
Great game, they definitely deserved it. Ghana had so many chances, but couldn't make them stick.

Great win for USA, tough match against Portugal but they could get a draw out of it, Ghana will have to beat Germany

Clearly played for the 1-0. Wasn't going to be totally pleased with a draw but Brooks saved the day.
We needed this win and Portugal getting thumped greatly helps us in case it comes down to GD for 2nd place. |

I heard that we won. I'm not a big soccer fan anyway.
Soccer is popular to play over here, but it's not as popular to watch. That said, last year about 6 million people attended Major League Soccer matches. So there are soccer fans here. It's just that the other sports have such a bigger following. I will admit that Americans like supporting their team, even if most don't know much about it. Same with the Olympics. You can root for your country even if you don't normally watch the sport. Of the soccer fans we have, I'm sure they're very fanatic about it. It's just that the majority of Americans don't really follow soccer. For those who do love the game, I'm sure they're as good of fans as any other nationality. |

USA really need to work on their middle 85 minutes of the game. Would be funny if they knocked Portugal out though.

The BBC commentary team really needs a shake up. There's Phil Neville sending me to sleep, Lawrenson making me want to end it all and Savage constantly talking bollocks.
IMO of course!!

Good game.........I ended up staying up until the final whistle which was unintended........
![]() Judging by Nigeria and Ghana yesterday the African teams appear to have gone backwards in the last few years despite most of their players now playing in Europe's top leagues |

You can't judge USA on the bulk of that game, going 1-0 up in 30seconds changed them and they played in a defensive way for eons.
It was only when Ghana equalised that we saw more of what USA would be like in a more normal situation. |

Yes, he does make some daft comments as I'm not sure when he gets a thought, that he pauses before he lets it out. But he was spot on with most observations both on Ghana's poor precision in the final third and the amazing defensive job that 4-5 of the US players performed. He also spotted and commented on the US goalkeeper dropping his weight the wrong way as the Ghana striker hit his goal. This is a bug bear of mine and something many top keepers do. I've been told by a coach friend of mine that teaching keepers to anticipate is a current coaching fad, as opposed to waiting until the ball has been struck before reacting. The latter way, at least you'll have a 50/50 chance of going the right way while with the former, you may get it right and you'll look good but you are increasing the likelihood of missing balls which actually, if you'd stayed put, you might have saved and sometimes, easily. Although everyone seems to only talk about Robert Green for that non save in South Africa, on this issue of when to move, I remember him making 2 fantastic saves in the friendly against Japan at Wembley before the tournament where the strikers were only yards away but Green waited and reacted to their strike, making 2 brilliant saves. If he'd moved before they has struck, he may have saved them but then again, he may not. PS Overall, I think the commentaries on both sides have been good but I do wish they'd all stop going on about whether players had intent to foul or not. How do they know? Occasionally, we hear them say, 'he took a card for the team with that tackle', although even then, I'm not sure they can know exactly what was in a players' mind as things happen so fast and spontaneously much of the time. |
