Contract up soon, which SIM only deal?
Fred S

My current mobile contract with EE ends soon and I don't really fancy being tied in to a long term contract again so I'm going to soldier on with my existing phone (unlocked Galaxy S2, with Cyanogenmod). So I want a cheap SIM only rolling 30 day type deal.

Any recommendations? I was originally going to go with Giffgaff but have been hearing some negative things recently (low data rates etc). I don't need massive amounts of data but 100MB (which seems to be the lowest amount going) would probably not be enough, nor do I need much in the way of minutes. Quite happy to change networks as long as I can keep my number and coverage is good.

Three do a 30 day sim only for £9.90 with a reasonable allowance, £6.90 if you don't mind signing up for 12 months.

you say 100MB would not be enough, but what you don't say is what would be enough? and around how many minutes and texts do you need so we can get a better picture

250MB data would be enough. And 100 minutes would be plenty

Great stuff. Not sure that this shows all the 1 month contracts though, for example the Three £9.90.

Looks like Virgin might be one of the cheapest here. Anyone got any comments on them?

I've had a virgin mobile sim only for over a year and i'm perfectly happy with them. Suits my needs perfectly.

Three's 321 PAYG. If that's typical of your typical monthly usage it would cost you £5.50 without any free internet. Three offer 150MB free internet with each top-up that lasts 30 days and after the initial £10 top-up there's a £5 option. If you top-up £5.00 each the free internet drops the cost to £4 plus 4G is free if that makes any difference.

For heavier use months there are also add on's that offer bundled mins, text and data that last 30 days. The bundle allowance can also be used for free roaming in feel at home countries (25GB data max if it's an AYCE bundle) .

Virgin (who run on the EE network) have a sim only (1 month contract) that gives you 150 minutes, unlimited texts and 500MB data for £7/month. Seems to fulfil your requirements.

+1

Three's 321 is the best pay as you go deal is the best for low users
Virgin is the best SIM only deal for low users

Virgin do have a fair use policy which caps you after you go over 3, 5gb. Once you go over that you're capped 384kbps. Im looking at three deal for 12.90.

Check out the calculator at http://www.paygdeal.co.uk

My page at http://petef.22web.org/payg.html has all basic PAYG rates listed but not any contracts.
