He would be better at it than Gerrard.

Rooney seems like the type of player that is almost completely ruled by his emotions, a bit like Paul Gascoigne. He's capable of playing with the best (or was), but he seems to allow himself to get disheartened and frustrated far too easily. His temperament is his biggest flaw.

I think that's why Roy was reluctant to bench him, because Rooney would implode and Roy presumably thinks we will really need Rooney at some stage, if he is on form. If he keeps turning in poor performances though, of course Roy should make the brave decision of benching him.

I do think Hodgson has made an error in making Gerrard captain. Its made it very very difficult for him to drop him now, and he was a passenger in the Italy game. He is only going to get more and more knackered you'd expect.

Whether Rooney would be the right choice is difficult. It could go either way for him, he'd either thrive off it, or the pressure would get to him even more. Tough call.

No, he wouldn't be a better choice, judging him from his performance in the Italy game.

Making him captain is neither her nor there IMHO.

Hodgson just needs to play him as a No 10, not wide-Left, full-back, or goalkeeper.
